Non-USC Second Year Housing

I'm going to get a single, off-campus, non-UHR apartment.

When do I need to start looking/sign my lease for the fall?

Is there a big difference between a studio and a single bedroom? Which do you recommend?

My D signed up for her off-campus housing before Christmas for next fall. It’s past time to have sought out and nailed down your housing, so please do what it takes NOW. The difference between a single & studio varies considerably, in price, size & amenities.

I would start here: http://dailytrojan.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/classifieds-feb-19A.pdf</a>
[Daily Trojan|Archive|Classifieds](http://dailytrojan.com/category/classifieds/)
and on facebook marketplace.

A studio is usually 1 big room with kitchen/living room/bedroom while a 1 bedroom will have division. A 1 bedroom is usually gonna be more expensive.

HImom: That early? Wow. And did she sign a lease for all of next school year?

I’ve heard from friends that NUPAC is the way to go?

Thoughts? Better options?

My S didn’t sign a lease until later in the year (maybe around this time last year). He signed with Conquest Housing (or something like that–large landlord). He wasn’t too happy with the unit they rented & they were gyped about getting all of their deposit back & it was sent to them late.

D signed for the new housing that is being built–a new apartment building called Gateway. I thought it was very early, but they signed in December! Each of them signed a lease that starts in August and runs through July or something (about 11 months, tho it’s called & charged as 12). Each signed for their portion only & parents were required to co-sign/guarantee.

So, I tried Gateway but they’re out of singles and have a ten person waiting list. That’s not likely.

I then tried NUPAC, First Choice Housing, and Regal Rita.

First Choice has two singles on West 36th. I think I read anything west of campus is bad. But this is just a block west and looks nice ([1168 W. 36th Place - Google Maps](<a href=“Google Maps”>Google Maps)).

Is this close enough to still be safe and nice? Also, is $1215 a month a decent price?

For NUPAC, there’s one on 2620 Severance Street, one on 949 W. Adams Blvd, and one on W. 27th. All around $1300.

Is NUPAC a good company? How are the locations? Any experience with these locations?

Sorry, my kids have always had room mates. My S is in “Regal Rita” this year and has not voice any complaints to us. He was in “The Pad,” off campus apartment last year (convenient but didn’t like management much–it is now under new management). Both were one-bedroom units, that I guess you could live in alone. I believe last year, his rent was under $1000 that he & his room mate split; not quite sure what it is this year but believe it may be comparable. He’s comfortable that both Regal Rita & The Pad were quite safe (the latter further from Frat Row & quieter). Sorry, I really don’t know much more. Both of these options are MUCH cheaper than Gateway, which is quite pricey (but new).

Does anyone need housing near USC? I have a room available in a beautiful duplex for Female student. A car might be helpful, but the room is big, laundry in unit, and full kitchen, wood floors, large family room and dining room. The other roommate is a female, professional photographer. We know all our neighbors. We know the family who lives below us in the duplex. If you looking for something cheap, close and beautiful, email me at Milesblu@**********.
