Nonconformist West Coast Colleges

Are there any liberally-minded nonconformist colleges on the west coast that come to mind? I'm thinking of places like Swarthmore, Hampshire, Brown, Wesleyan, Bard etc. There seem to be plenty on the east coast, but I'm having a hard time finding many on the west coast. Thanks!

What are you not conforming to?

Try Pomona, Occidental, and Reed.

Unconventional brings to mind UCSC, Humboldt State, Evergreen State, etc. rather than Oxy and Pomona. Maybe Lewis & Clark and/or Whitman as well.

I tried to go with equivalents of the places the OP listed, rather than “nonconformist” or “unconventional” (subjective and odd evaluations). They seemed good matches with Swarthmore or Brown (not the most “unconventional” colleges in the world).

We had a hard time with this same question. My d ended up considering Occidental, Pitzer, Reed, and Lewis & Clark - but she really preferred the colleges on the east coast.

Pomona if you have the stats for it

You can’t get more non-conformist than Reed. I highly recommend this college.

Reed and most schools in Northern California.

I’ve heard that St. Johns College in NM is extremely unconventional and for a very bright group of self selected students (aka they know thats where they want to go). Might be too crazy however

Pitzer and Reed.

Evergreen State College in Washington has a reputation for being very nonconformist and “hippie”.

Reed and Pomona.
