So I've applied to colleges in NorCal & SoCal but am having a hard time choosing where to go. I really want to go to college in LA but don't really have any family & friends there and am kind of scared to just leave NorCal where they all are. I know it's still in state and everything but the distances are so far away.
Anyone else having these issues on choosing where to go?
Any recommendations?

You’re right that the distances are far. But college is a great time to spread your wings. If you go to a large school in LA, you can make friends in your dorm and by getting involved in organizations. If you go to a smaller LAC, it will be easy to make friends because you’ll see the same people over and over.

As a general rule, people who go to school to be near their high school friends are frequently disappointed. People grow and change a lot after high school. Even if you stayed in the same town, your group of friends is likely to disperse.

I’d focus on the qualities of the campuses themselves rather than their latitude. Campus size, makeup and setting (maybe weather too) are probably bigger drivers of your experience than N vs S.

See where you get in then take some tours, i bet the decision is easier then.

I would say follow what you want. When applying I always wanted to go to SoCal and be by the beach amd city but I ended up choosing Chico which is almost as far north as you can go. I looooove Chico but I still have some regrets in moving as far as i can from SoCal. This is the time to figure out you and find your identity and to make memories. Do it in a place you really want. Things will work out with family.
