Sorry, but there is no guarantee that SOAPing will result in a position. Just read the information going on now in the SDN forum under ERAS and the NRMP match.

If you are a US graduate and you want an internal medicine prelim position, there will be a spot for you. But, you can’t be picky.

Pharmagal,
Yes, this thread is awesome.
“MiamiDAP, You can take it easy at least through another half year. My DS is finishing up 2nd yr in April and starting MS3 in May”
-Apparently it is different from school to school. I believe that D’s 3rd year starts in March of next year, not in May. That is when her rotations start. I hope (and it might be her goal also) that she could complete everything and residency at where she is now, that would be perfect!

Looking forward to reading the match list after Friday. In DS’s school, they post it up outside the Registrar’s office on a white-board. The 4th years sign their names and note where they were matched. At least the top 30% post their matches.

I will be sure to visit on Saturday to check it. It’s a great way for the MS3s to also find out who matched in their area of interest and network with them in the future.

Good luck to everyone for the big day tomorrow! (the most important day of med school)

^^

Same to you NCG!

I think we (mom and dad) are far more relaxed tonight than our son is…we’re happy that he’s matched and hoping he’ll get one of his top choices-he’s focused solely on where he’ll match. He says he’ll be very happy anywhere from 1-7 and to date still hasn’t shared what his rank list is. I think I have an idea of top three and bottom three but the rank/order of the top/middle we can only guess.

Best of luck to all tomorrow!

Wish everybody why applies this cycle, especially NCG who shared his experiences (premed, applying to med schools, and now this) with us in the past N years, will have a good news today!

Some stats on this years match.

Some from Match List at D’s school:

9-Derm
23 - Rads
15 -Ort. surgery

D. is impressed. I do not know much, but it is impressive, isn’t? So, maybe selective ones ar not so out of reach…

Matched at #1 choice for prelim year and #1 choice for rads.

^Congrats NCG, awesome news!

Whoot ncg!

I will say that this is a bittersweet day as I had a friend not match into the place she wanted. She grew up in the city, her family is there, she goes to med school at the program she wanted to match at, her husband is a resident at the hospital, and she had good credentials (good USMLE score, AOA, and >5 pubs) and she was practically assured by her home program that she would match there. She didn’t.

You always hear stories like this but you think the applicant must’ve had a red flag or been a weirdo. My friend is neither of those things. The Match has been in place for 50 years and usually it works out. But, not always.

NCG- sad I hope she matched to someplace that will work with her real life. It is painful when your life is affected so dramatically by seeming randomness.

I would’ve been ecstatic matching at any of my top 3 programs and realistically I would have been happy at any of my top 8. But, for her, she had a clear #1 and it was very important for her to stay close to her husband and family. She was applying for a uber competitive specialty but her credentials were excellent. I even thought she was underselling herself for “settling” for her home program. It was a HUGE shock to me today that she didn’t match at that program.

NCG, Congratulations! Another great achievement!!

It’s been a good day for me as well!

I do know that not all of my classmates are thrilled with where they’re going, but I think that for right now, everyone is just glad to know something.

Great job ncg and giinyvere!! And sorry about your freind. I hope not but my kid might get zeroed in on a particular location herself (where the seemingly non-random boy is). That sure would make it difficult.

I’ll have to ask my D wheher there were any whoops of glee or wails of anguish at her school.

Congrats to all.

Good day here as well! He got his #1 choice which is a six year, top tier program with historically strong placement into highly placed, hard to get fellowships.

Very proud of him.

Mixed emotions at the same time…very happy and a huge sense of relief but a bit of melancholy for EAmom and me since he will be moving so far away…again.

Congrats, NCG, EaDad’s DS, and Ginny,

Awesome achievement! You have made your parents very proud. I hope we continue to hear back from you.
