Northeastern Class of 2027 Official Thread

Thank you!

Physics is not offered at NU Oakland
so that is def not a good fit for your son and likely why he was not considered for this campus. Limited Majors at least to start

Yeah, you’re right. But they have never reported “part time” admissions before
I wonder what that is. But coincidentally it is the same number of full time admits
ugh. I was hoping it was finally reports of NUin admits for transparency
.
(I will update my earlier post.)

If that is true, I would be concerned that the admit team see that the student marked Oakland as a possible option but had not read which majors were offered there. That might be a red flag to the admit team. Saying that my son stated his preference was NUin (Thessaloniki) whilst knowing his selected major (Archi) isn’t offered for NUin either. Not that it would be a bad thing, but the Archi Level 1 courses would be missed during that entire time. It is of no issue as we are not expecting an admit anyway. @2CollegeHoosiers why would your son prefer NU Oakland to Michigan, CW? Did he already get accepted to those two?

Same-my son’s portal is back to saying “awaiting decision” :woman_shrugging:

How long before the results?! The wait is painful.

For the folks desperately anticipating results? Probably April 1st. :flushed:

I am not sure that the list of Oakland majors was even available at the time when students were applying. One would hope the admit team wouldn’t expect students to know which majors would be available, if they hadn’t been announced or finalized yet.

My son was admitted to NUin, but when we looked into it, he wouldn’t be able to make significant progress on his major in the entire first year. He has AP credit for nearly all of the technical courses offered through NUin, so he couldn’t make much progress in his first semester at any of the locations. And the courses in his specific major are taught only once a year in Boston, so he would miss the Fall semester introduction and not be on track for the courses in Spring. He would end up nearly a year behind, compared to being admitted to Boston in the fall.

In short, I don’t think Admissions is quite as sophisticated as you might think about matching students’ majors with specific admission programs

I mean, personally I would rather get rejected from anything NEU than get accepted to NUin when I applied for Boston campus. Not saying that goes for everyone, but still. I just don’t understand why the school would accept someone for a program they specifically chose NOT to sign up for. Doesn’t make a ton of sense to me, especially if NUin really is so coveted. Because if I chose that I wanted to stay on Boston campus and wasn’t up to spending the first semester or year abroad, then I am only considering the Boston campus. And this is from a high school senior’s point of view btw. Not saying this to start a fight!! But I just really don’t get why they would choose people for NUin who expressly indicated their DISINTEREST in the program. Not saying its a game they’re playing, but I do think it’s just
weird.

Many colleges - not only NU do this. My son applied to BU and was accepted to a program he did not apply for which started in London in January rather than September. Clemson accepts students for a summer start or a January start who did not apply for that. I have only heard great things about NUin but if you don’t want to go abroad first semester it’s certainly your choice. Good luck with your chosen school.

oh yeah i’m sure that’s the case, northeastern is just the only school i applied to that has the program so built-in like this. and yeah i mean i would say the same for any school. i just think being on-campus and adjusted to the city, the people around me, etc, would be important for me to succeed in such a new environment! it’s nothing bad about studying abroad freshman year, i just don’t necessarily agree with them selecting people for programs they specifically said they didn’t want to do

Many people say NO to NU.in because they think the school will not consider them for the Boston campus if they indicate they are open to other options, but a lot of them will still take NU.in if that is what is offered to them. I am sure the school has a lot of data to show that what they are doing is working for them.

sure yeah i mean im not denying that but look, it’s pretty annoying for people that applied for only the boston campus to end up getting put in a different program. some people are fine with it, yeah, but if you didn’t sign up for that and don’t want it, it’s not helpful.

Then you just need to look at it like a denial. You did not get accepted to the Boston campus. They are offering you an alternative program. Now it’s up to you if you want to accept it or not. I’m not trying to be harsh, but that’s just the reality, especially with highly competitive schools.

We are paying top dollars for the college. If we don’t get what we signed up for I would not enroll my student

that’s what im doing it as. well i haven’t got a decision yet but im just saying. i will treat it like a denial because im only interested in boston campus, not NUin or anything. and since i said i want to stay on boston campus, i have no interest in going abroad for the first year. so yeah it’s effectively a denial if they make me do NUin.

Double “whammy” for us. Not only does DS23 need to get accepted, he will also need sizable merit. He understands that we cant/wont pay $85,000/yr. Good luck!

My S21 was accepted through NU.in. He wasn’t upset about it, but he decided on another school. He had a very specific study abroad he wanted to do and it wouldn’t work with the NU.in program. He is finishing his sophomore year and is 100% confident he picked the right school.

My S23 was admitted to the Boston campus, but he absolutely would have done the NU.in program if that was what was offered. He probably would not have accepted any of the other options.

Hopefully, you have other acceptances and one will turn out to be your just right school.
