I believe the London Program is for 3 years in London. You get a UK degree. If you want a US degree, you come back to the US for the 4th year.
Congrats on UVA. Daughter got into NEU but rejected from UVA in state.
In the past there was only one waitlist. Last year no one was admitted to the Boston campus from the waitlist. Some were admitted to NU In from the waitlist.
Waitlisted (RD)
But I did get into Caltech and Cornell (likely letter) for Biology/ Environmental Science
Hoping for other positive results going forward into the end of march
Congrats to everyone who got in !!!
Congratulations to all who got in.
We are devastated and stumped over here.
Not looking forward to the rest of the week as the ones we are still waiting for have lower acceptance rates.
This was considered a target for my daughter.
Proof that college admissions is quite random sometimes. Congrats to your daughter; UVA and NEU are very different but both great schools in their own merits.
Exactly!
My sonâs friend is likely Ivy-bound (near perfect on all accounts and they are full pay so not sure if that helps?) but he, like my son, was waitlisted to Northeastern. This made my son feel a little better, especially when his friend said âItâs not unusual for Northeastern to reject or waitlist overqualified students.â Well, that helped sooth his ego anyway! I honestly thought my sonâs 1450 SAT would help him in this regard because heâs not âtop of the topâ applying to NU and did not apply to Ivyâs, but here we are.
It is not that the student is âoverqualifiedâ. It is because Northeastern feels that the student is likely to attend a higher ranked college, thus lowering the yield.
Oh I totally know that. I just thought it was funny that his friend said it, likely as a coping mechanism or a way to reassure himself, given he is not used to rejection. And I was fine with that making my son feel better. Itâs so tough when our kids are perfectionists and tend to be so hard on themselves, so whatever works to heal the wounds I guess. My daughter is an average student academically but excels musically. She applied for music in 2019. She got into every school, including tougher music schools like CalArts and Berklee, but did not get into University of Miami Frost. Her reaction was âthey told me during a tour that my ACT would probably not be strong enough for U Miami, so if they care more about that than my audition, itâs not the school for me.â She ended up at Loyola New Orleans, where they really showed her the love, and she couldnât be happier as a junior. So I think students just have to put it all in perspective and realize it will all work out in the end.
I was rejected with a 3.997 unweighted GPA & 34 ACT.
Honestly I donât really mind since Iâm an English/Journalism major and Northeasternâs program is generally considered mediocre anyway. My safeties are probably just as good. This doesnât make me feel hopeful about BU & NYU thoughâŠ
I think they, like a number of other schools (Tulane comes to mind :)), mostly want kids who very much want to be there. My sonâs stats are a little lower than some here but NEU is one of his top choices. He showed his interest a gazillion ways and even sent a âwhy Northeasternâ email to the admissions rep. He was accepted for Oakland and is likely to accept, spend a year there and then transfer to Boston. I know this hasnât worked out for all the kids who expressed interest, and I know some kids wouldnât consider Oakland, but my advice to future applicants would be to do whatever possible to let them know how much you want to come.
How do you get that?
One A- for half a semester in 9th grade lol.
To get to 3.997 with a single A-, you will need to take 99 courses with an A.
Well thatâs what my transcript said at the end of 11th grade so I donât know what to tell you haha
My daughter got into UCLA, UCSD, UNC (all OOS) and waitlisted at Fordham! Best of luck to you!!
received the ea decision email on 01/30 at 5:25pm est if helps.
I just double checked because Iâm paranoid and yeah, 3.997 is still listed as my GPA. I guess the software must be broken because youâre right, I did the math and it should be 3.9907. Hopefully colleges wonât care lol.
For those of you who were accepted tp Boston, Oakland, London or an NUin program, did you find the financial package to be what you expected? Iâm hearing some students expected more merit, based on past years, and that NU was more skimpy this year. Some said it exceeded the price given by the NPC. Just curious if the financial package matches the NPC you were given and/or how it compares to your EFC. Being on the waitlist, we have no idea where the COA will fall, although NU gave us a pre-read because we were considering ED so I assume ours is accurate (+$5k more than the NPC and +$14k higher than our EFC.)
