Northeastern (D'Amore) Vs. Purdue (Krannert)

I got accepted to both these schools. Looking to major in either Finance or Economics.
The cost for Purdue is around 43k and for NEU around 58k.

I just wanted to know which school would offer me the best academics and overall college experience?
I’m leaning more towards NEU because of their co-op and the fact that its in Boston.
Is NEU worth the extra 15k? According to US News Purdue is ahead of NEU but vice versa according to Bloomberg in rankings. I know Purdue is really very good for Engineering, but can the same be said for its Business programs? It’s turning out to be really tough for me to pick.

I’m an international student, so can’t really visit any of 'em. So more info on campus, social life etc. would be welcome as well…

Thanks!

Between the two, Purdue is definitely the better deal. Not only is it significantly cheaper, but both business schools are comparable (I should know - I was accepted to Krannert for economics too!) You can accomplish great things at either school, but the price differential makes Purdue shine in this situation.

Thanks for the reply minohi! Did you accept your offer to Krannert?

Unfortunately I did not. My total cost of attendance would have been 45k, and that’s just too expensive for my family. If you can afford it, though, go for it!

Can your parents easily pay the difference out of pocket, or would that difference mean a loan?
if they can pay, then it’s a family choice.
If they’re stretching ror Krannert already, then don’t worry about NEU.

I think it all depends on whether you want to live in a major city in the northeast, or if you want to live in a rural part of the midwest. These are very different types of schools, with very different environments. I would visit each and decide where you would prefer to live for four years.

@MYOS1634 Cost isn’t an issue if I’m getting into a better school. Not considering cost, which school do you think would be the better choice?

I’m sorry but a 15k price difference is definitely an issue. Go with Purdue. You’ll get the same quality education for a much cheaper price. Unless living in an urban area is an absolute MUST, Purdue has the upper hand.

@informative Visiting these schools is not possible at all since I’m from India. I think I would prefer a city like Boston tho. But again, if Purdue is a better school, I’d probably go there since I’ve heard West Lafayette isn’t too bad in terms of having something to do and stuff.

@minohi Yeah I guess you’re right. But do you think i could recover some through the co-op program at NEU?
I won’t even have to pay tuition during co-op.

If you would feel more comfortable attending living in a city, why are you considering Purdue? It is no where near a major city. It has a farm on its campus.

If you prefer urban living and business prestige matters, Northeastern is probably a better choice, although apparently Purdue enjoys a heightened status in India.
Co-ops allow you to earn money, but your degree will take 5 years, so all in all it’s like attending a 4-year college full pay.
However, 15k is nothing to sneeze at, unless your parents have it and can invest it in your education.

Virtually all programs at Northeastern are available in 4 or 5 year options with coop and have been for several years. I either case, you only pay for 8 semesters.

Thanks for all the information guys! Appreciated!
