From NEU website. I think you’re ok!

Thanks so so much!

We received an email this morning saying all applicants can change enrollment preferences till 11/8. The email is longer but here are the first 2 paragraphs. Seems odd to reopen the app for modifications?

Thank you for your application to Northeastern! Please read this message thoroughly, as it can impact your admission decision. Action is available through your Application Status Check Portal until November 8 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

We are providing all applicants with the opportunity to review and re-confirm their enrollment preferences a final time. The form available in your Application Status Check displays the preferences indicated on your application.

Just added to the application portal is an optional but highly recommended - credits the student expects to bring via AP/IB and college classes.

We got this email too. Is anyone else having issues logging into the portal? We’ve been in numerous times and now it’s not working.

works for us

Thank you! No one else seems to have the issue; but we’ll not read into it. Super weird and definitely not user error. Will wait to hear how to resolve. Appreciate the response.

Is there a way to indicate ONLY Boston Campus preference for ED to Northeastern?
In the portal If you leave the drop down for the second preference empty it does not allow you to submit.

wow - i did not know it wouldn’t let you submit when you leave it blank. i would just put in something - the reality is that if it’s not your first choice you are not “bound” by the ED agreement so it works more like an EA in that regard. you would only be bound if it were Boston (or whatever you put as first choice).

I would think that it would help with their yield protection if there is a way to specify that one will only likely commit if given a particular campus and that there are really no second or choice preferences.

it’s a good point - i am not sure they’re just about yield protection - they are also probably trying to fill their non-Boston campus enrollment numbers. so the more qualified students they can offer those spots, i am sure they will try. But i’m just a clueless parent - what do i know? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I would guess…and purely a guess…is that lets them make an offer to students who are not selected for admittance to Boston. If the ED rate stays about 35%, many of the 65% are probably highly qualified. They just can’t fill the entire class through ED1.

I doubt that a candidate who makes the cut for Boston campus would be offered their second choice based on that selection. If a candidate who checked Boston gets offered something else, the alternative would have been a denial.

i have this issue as well. have you figured out what to do?

My daughter called admissions and was told occasionally “the system” switches the email used to log on. So in her case it went from her gmail (which is what she used to set up the portal) to her school email (which was obviously used somewhere on her application). I’d suggest trying a backup/secondary email address, and if that doesn’t work, call them. She didn’t wait long; they were super helpful and fixed it immediately.

Is there any difference in admission rates between early action and early decision I? DC is thinking about applying for next year when she will be a senior. Right now we are culling down their list of schools. We noticed that a few schools offer both early action and early decision, like Northeastern.

If Early Decision I doesn’t offer an appreciable bump in chances of admission versus Early Action, it would be prudent for her to just apply Early Action.

The ED acceptance rate is significantly higher than the EA acceptance rate.

Only apply ED if you are sure that is her first choice and you can afford u can ask FA for an early read on any aid usually in October, but you have to have submitted an application of some sort (even RD) by the time of the pre read I believe.

Thank you for the quick response. Do you know how much higher? I know that there are ED I and ED 2, and Early Action. If eg, ED I has a 40% acceptance rate, and ED 2 is 35%, and Early Action is 30%, that is an acceptable “risk”, but if ED I is 50% and Early Action is 10%, that changes the calculus. Thanks for all the replies!

perhaps others know the ED1/ED2 breakdown, but the only info i know of is from SuperTutorTV Blog where they report that Northeastern ED (probably both ED1 and 2 combined) has a 32.9% acceptance rate, and an RD acceptance of 6% (which can include EA non-binding). They also report that 35.3% of the enrolled class is made up of ED acceptances. Another factor specific to Northeastern is that they can admit someone to a specific campus (ie. not Boston) and still consider that an acceptance so it is possible that you can accepted to a non-preferred campus (and therefore be counted as an “acceptance”) but you may not want to go there (and you won’t be bound to go there if you applied ED and didn’t get your preferred campus).
