I’m may be wrong, but I do not believe alternate pathways are included in the CDS of admitted students.
I believe it is a more significant boost that, but I can’t find an exact number. My understanding is that the acceptance rates for EA and RD are calculated together.
I agree with @FLMom2021 that the CDS only includes Fall Boston admits as required by federal reporting. Alternate entry programs are not considered admissions right away bc students are not officially matriculated into NU until they start in Boston and onky frosh are reported. Those coming to Boston from London or Oakland are transfers…
I thought I recall reading a while back that the N.U. in students are also not reported on the CDS.
I am amazed that the total # of applicants is reported but the total # of admits is not.
Anyone applied for EA got the email considered as legacy ?
What does legacy mean if the sibling still in the college is there any tuition discount ?
“Thank you for your interest in Northeastern University! As determined from your Northeastern application, you are considered to have Institutional Legacy.”
CDS does report number of admits (for Boston Fall) and number who enroll… and correct, NUIN and and other alternate entry programs are not reported as admissions bc they are not matriculated in the fall semester. This is the same for all campuses that have alternate entry programs.
No tuition discount based on legacy… and not sure enrolled siblings count as legacy. NU has traditionally said they do not consider legacy but they often have some special info sessions etc. for families with past connections to NU.
If your NPC shows two in college benefits you financially, then NU will match that need for the second child, but it is based on finances, not legacy.
I do think that enrolled siblings count as legacy because we just received that email as well and have a current second year student. I was also hopeful that there might be a sibling discount! I do think that having an enrolled sibling would be at least a bit of a help towards admissions because of the school’s yield considerations. It seems that having a sibling would be somewhat of an indication that you would attend if accepted.
Yes that’s what I heard on the info sessions siblings currently enrolled considered as legacy and hence we got the email.
Wanted to know from previous legacy students and parents what are the benefits like tuition discounts or admission criteria etc ?
Do you know if the Oakland and London admits are reported anywhere?
There is no tuition discount for having a sibling who is currently enrolled at Northeastern. However, as has been pointed out above, with two students enrolled in college the family’s financial need would likely be greater and the financial aid award higher than if only one was enrolled.
Also, while Northeastern states it does not consider legacy in admissions, having an older sibling enrolled might indicate the younger applicant is more likely to attend.
I have not seen any such figures. London would be problematic as they have their own application (UCAS and online) for students who only want to attend there.
We got significant financial aid from Northeastern and nothing anywhere else. We are guessing, and it really is a guess, that Northeastern either gives more for having multiple students in college (not even the same college) OR they do not penalize as much for having a college savings plan. It seems that Northeastern skews more to financial aid than merit aid.
Technically legacy is children of alumni, but no doubt having an enrolled sibling is likely considered as a family that knows the school. For the ten years my kids were at NU (thru 22) the line had been that legacy does not matter. With the recent SCOTUS ruling on affirmative action and now a keen eye for colleges on legacy admits, I’m sure it will be a minor role in admissions. NU has offered at times a “legacy” admissions info session (we attended one in CA For D2) and at that time, they said the session was to highlight any changes since they (presumably alum) had attended NU.
This from Boston.com “ As for Northeastern, a spokesperson told Boston.com the university “takes a holistic view of every applicant and legacy status is just [one of] a myriad of factors we consider.” Only admissions knows, but I would not expect a guaranteed admissions for siblings with how competitive the school has become.

I feel like I recall a few years ago NU FA announced a policy decision to start focusing more on need based aid and less merit aid, so thst would make sense… but don’t quote me on that.
Last year was the official start of both of those campuses, and I only saw reports that they were expecting (or striving to?) 300 enrolled students in each campus (for full time programming, not NUin) for Oakland, that would make sense to fill out that campus at around 1200 since Mills was a small LAC previously. At some point they may have a CDS for each of those campuses (or at least Oakland bc that is Domestic.)
Whatever the reason, I am grateful. I think most students who are admitted to NE are high achieving so getting merit aid would be incredibly competitive.
We received the same legacy letter and have a second year student at NEU as well. Nice that they at least recognize there is another family member enrolled.
I don’t think guaranteed admission for legacy would happen at any school, but I do think if you have two completely comparable candidates and one has a currently enrolled sibling they might see that as an indication that you are more likely to enroll and lean in your favor in terms of yield. That said, some students might prefer to be a school away from their sibling so perhaps it’s not an indicator of likelihood to enroll at all!
It also seems to make sense they are focusing in the legacy info session on the different enrollment paths because these options might come as a surprise to graduates (even recent graduates) as so much as changed in even the last 2 years.
I’m an alum and NU parent. My son humored me by going with me to the Alumni Pinning Ceremony at Family Weekend, which was very nice. There are 1,200 legacy students (I believe meaning parents and grandparents, not siblings). Lots of satisfied customers!
My son was a high stats kid who was deferred Early Action and admitted RD with a Dean’s Scholarship. I was surprised by the deferral, so I don’t think legacy helped him, but he was accepted after all.
does anyone know when ed1 decisions come out? from what i know it’s December 8th but I’m not 100% sure…
