Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Website says February. Deadlines & Decisions | Undergraduate Admissions

Others who have gone through the process can speak to whether they start releasing decisions as early as December but that seems highly unlikely to me.

December 8th would be as good a guess as any as that is when they were released last year. Northeastern has changed up so many things in the past few years that the past is no longer a predictor of the future.

Sorry, you said ED. I misread.

oh okay, thank you for the info. Did you know when ED2 decisions were posted last year?

Feb 15 last year for ED2

In past years NU released EA before ED2. Last year it seems they asked who wanted to convert to ED2 and did not release EA until after ED2 was complete. Does anyone have any experience with this?

what abt the years before that? were they all around feb 15?

My high school works on trimesters, I just received my report, should the school submit it to Northeastern if I applied ED?

ED1 or ED2?

I applied ED1

My D applied EA last year. I recall that they released EA results on 1/26 (after a whole IT debacle where admitted students received an email about setting up their school email account BEFORE NEU actually released admissions decisions). ED2 decisions were released on 2/2.

It’s probably worth looking back at the very long thread from last year to set expectations. At our high school (and more broadly according to the comments on CC) applicants (even those with lower stats) who applied ED and indicated that they would be willing to start at any campus, other than Boston, were admitted at significantly higher rates than those who applied EA and indicated “Boston only” as their preference.

I just looked at the portal today, it asks me to choose a career in Oakland because I marketed any campus in my ED application. Still, the list has no career related to architecture / Design. Should I not answer this question? What else could I do? Contact them?

just noticed on my S24’s portal (applied EA) that there is now a button for “early financial aid read” which is new. does that mean a decision is coming soon or does that show up pretty much for everyone?

shows up for everyone. you get it if you applied early enough.

I would most definitely contact your admissions officer. ED is binding so if you said you’d accept admission to any campus, you could end up in Oakland without access to your desired major. Oakland is primarily liberal arts courses.

My second D recently graduated NU with a BS/MS in architecture by the way and is happily employed at a great firm of her choosing in NYC. Happy to answer any arch questions. Thought it was a great program.

The early financial read was offered thru October for potential ED applicants in order to give families an idea about what kind of aid they could expect if accepted ED. They must be offering it now to EA applicants, and that may be a way for families to decide to switch to ED2 if the $$ looks right. I would take them up on it myself.

We signed the ED contract this year and it’s only binding if you are placed at your first choice. You select other choices and they can offer them to you but they are not binding.

But if you choose “any campus” then I believe that would be binding if admitted to any campus.

Yes, the app states:

PLEASE NOTE: You will be considered for all programs regardless of your answer. If you apply Early Decision (ED), please note that the ED agreement will apply if you are admitted to your first choice or if you select you are open to any Northeastern first-year program (final option on the list).

What is your secondary preference for joining the Northeastern community?
Please note that you will be considered for all programs regardless of your answer. If you choose to apply Early Decision (ED) and receive an admission offer, this second preference will not be binding.

Both the first choice list and the second choice list include, as the final option, “I’m open to any Northeastern first-year program.”

So, for example, a person could apply ED and list Boston for first choice, and be bound upon acceptance to Boston, and for second choice be open to any program, and not be bound by that second choice of any program. The wording above the first choice list is a little ambiguous, however - bothers me just a little.

ok, weird, now the box to choose a major in Oakland disappeared
I only have the one that says “Chance my application category”
