Northeastern merit v. need aid

my son received an $18K dean’s scholarship…our EFC is $40K (a joke, 1/4 of our pre-tax income, but whatever) any idea if Northeastern would give us need-based aid to get down to 40K, then apply the 18K merit aid for a net 22K cost?
That would seem the fair way to truly deliver merit aid…given their 65K gross pricetag, they aren’t affordable to us without getting the cost down closer to the public range of low to mid 20s

Merit aid and need based aid do not stack. The FAFSA EFC is irrelevant as Northeastern is a CSS Profile school. What did the NPC show?

Unfortunately, merit does not stack with financial aid. Sorry to hear the situation, but it sounds like Northeastern isn’t affordable. You can try appealing for aid but that’s about it.

Thx…he ended up getting both a fellowship and scholarship at SUNY Geneseo so he will get a solid education at less than half the price of Northeastern, with savings remaining for law school. And some nice outdoors to enjoy.
