Are the financial aid offerings for waitlisted students, merit and need, even lower than regular admits? Can we expect a decent aid offer? This is especially worrisome since another thread said NE is ‘out’ for people appealing their regular admission aid packages. Do they have another pot of aid for waitlisted admits? Thanks for any replies.
If accepted off the waitlist the chances for merit aid are slim to nonexistent by definition. Appealing need based aid at any school seldom increases the aid more than a couple thousand dollars.
But Northeastern would meet full need, as they determine it to be.
TomSrOfBoston makes a good point. Northeastern meets need as they determine it. My daughter just declined Northeastern as the cost was $14,000/year higher than BC and UVA and Colgate, $16,000 higher than Holy Cross. Called to confirm that there was not an error as Northeastern, among the 11 schools my daughter was accepted to, was clearly a cost outlier. They confirmed that they met our full need as calculated by their office. Sadly that spread could only have been covered by debt so NEU was off the table.
I’m not sure how my merit aid compares to those who were admitted earlier, but I was just accepted off the waitlist and offered a $12,000 Dean’s Scholarship.
That’s great. Congrats!
My daughter just got in off the waitlist with $25k in merit based aid
MY DD got in off the waitlist as well with $20K merit aid.
It is very interesting that there is so much merit left for the waiting list.
My son was just accepted off the waitlist today as well. We never submitted 2016 tax returns since they never asked for them but the email said FA could not be specified without the forms. If he was being offered merit aid would that have been included with the offer regardless of tax returns? I doubt he can attend just based on need based aid…
@am9799 Merit scholarships and need based grants are not an actual pot of money. It is essentially a tuition discount. It is the same at every college (except for a small portion that may come from endowed scholarships).
$18K in Merit for my kid who got off of waitlist.
