Northeastern or Binghamton?

I was accepted into BU, NEU and SUNY Bing. I crossed out BU because it was way too expensive and now im down to NEU and Bing. I want to go to NEU because of the co-op program and I want to be in a city. But NEU would mean $33k out of pocket for me a year and possibly graduating in five years. Bing is a state school but its only $20k out of pocket for me a year. It was my safety school so I wouldn't be so excited about going there and it's in a dead town. I just cant decide if NEU is worth the huge debt i'm going to have or is Bing a better choice for me right now. I plan to study International Business. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

someone please help I’m really confused and I only have a week till my decision is due…

No school is worth a lot of debt…and especially for pre-med. you will have a lot of debt for med school, so how can you even consider big debt for undergrad.

Do this…go to SUNY Bing and do super well. Get to know your science profs, ask to assist with research. Visit the Pre-health advising office on a regular basis. And, for fun, with the money that you’re saving by going to Bing, do a cool study abroad or some other fun trip. Also, get involved in some clubs to find out other fun things that students are doing…what are your hobbies or sports interests? Intramurals? Hiking? Biking? Skiing? There are probably groups that plan these activities thru the school’s rec center.

Keep in mind that no matter where you go, you will be “nose to the grindstone” studying in order to get top grades for med school, so even if you were at a really cool college in a fun town, you probably will often be too busy to enjoy all of it, so your debt would be for naught.

Hey, during spring break or whenever, take a trip to Boston and enjoy all that is there without incurring the big debt to attend school there! Seriously, it’s crazy to incur big debt just for the “fun aspect” when for a lot less over 4 years you can have plenty of fun at various places in the country.

How will you be paying for Bing? Will your parents be paying all costs? If so, then you work over summer and build up some savings to fund some fun things to do when you have down-time.

i’m not planning to go to med-school…i’m majoring in International Business…
and yes my parents will be helping me with some but definitely not a lot
I understand what you’re saying it’s just I feel Northeastern would give me an advantage when it comes to applying for jobs in the future…

I don’t know about that^^
the SUNYs are really gaining some noteworthy praise in recent years including Kiplingers lists of best colleges/best values. NEU has a hefty price tag, and Boston can be quite an expensive place to live, even aside from that.

that is true^ but I am really interested in Northeastern’s co-op program

i’m not planning to go to med-school…

then why did you post this in the med school forum?

oops! im sorry i guess i just didn’t notice when i was posting i’m new to the site…my bad

Binghamton is supposedly a very good state school.

Although the town is a bit sketchy, there is a nice mall nearby and they amhave the bus taking kids to NYC and such a lot, or so I have heard.
