just got the email, i don’t think it means anything
Is anyone’s counselor Kyla McNally-Anderson? I never got an email.
I haven’t gotten an email and I have counselor Abigail Kim.
@CMH2024 and @vchen125 - I would remain calm. I think everyone will eventually get an email. It seems to be in waves and doesn’t seem to mean much - just an update to let everyone know what’s going on. Let’s give it some time.
The one thing I wonder: does the “including our admitted Huskies” mean anything? I think I’m fairly competitive for Northeastern. My assumption is that it means nothing.
I really don’t think it means anything because everyone I know got it
Got it at 1:35
Why did NEU only send the email to my parents but not to me ??? Is there a delay or something?
It says u can contact ur admissions counselor about ur decisions once its released with any questions and it includes their name and email so im pretty sure its by admissions counselor/means nothing
I don’t remember… how many students admitted in the N.U.in program vs on Boston campus to start each year?
Italy is one of the N.U.in locations listed on the official website. The Coronavirus incidence and severity there are still going up. Other locations are Australia, Czech Republic, England, Canada, Greece, Ireland, and Germany.
I can see the burden facing NEU: not only do the NEU admissions folks have the unenviable task of having to predict the future and also make concrete and final decisions now that impact students’ lives 5 months from now, they also will have to do it considering students’ and parents’ mindset about having to decide on a college by the May 1 deadline for most schools, and whether students will or won’t commit to N.U.in and face possible further uncertainty, or decide to attend another college instead.
@esdoc A lot of schools are extending the deposit deadline to 6/1 so more schools might start to follow that.
I hope all schools would do that. It’s about a hundred so far according to this Washington Post article, and some are expressly saying they are holding on to May 1. My daughter got a letter from another school to extend her deposit deadline to June 1. But it sounded like the deadline extension pertained to the deposit, not necessarily the decision (I’ll have to check on that).
If some schools do that but others don’t, and there are schools with May 1 and schools with June 1 deadlines in the final group of schools to consider, May 1 is still the de facto deadline for that student to make a decision. That’s why I wish all schools would extend that decision deadline.
Sorry, this is pertaining to the deadline extension topic that popped up above. I’ll get back on topic of NEU after this post:
That Washington Post article also mentions a lot of interesting dynamics in the students’ and parents’ college decisions based on geography that the admissions officers are anticipating, since the Coronavirus situation means parents and students won’t be able to take a second look at faraway schools so easily, and how that in turn may influence the colleges’ waitlist and acceptance decisions, skewing toward accepting students more from nearby regions who are more likely to attend in order to keep the yield up.
Here’s a relevant quote from the article:
“Mindful of that possibility, some selective colleges may take a second look at geography this month as they make admission decisions. One enrollment leader for a competitive university in the Eastern United States, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the process candidly, said a student from a nearby state might get an edge this year over one from the West Coast with equal credentials. “She can drive here with her parents,” this leader said. “Her parents are going to say, ‘You’re a day away, and if the airport’s closed down, we can come and get you.’ ””
Who knows if any of these mental gymnastics anticipating college decisions mentioned by admissions officers to the reporters will pan out to be true, since there has been no admissions cycle quite like this one in decades, if ever. But nevertheless their admit/deny decisions are final, and are influenced by current events.
I just got the email it’s definitely based off admissions counselor. No need to worry yet
Just so ppl know, about 350 students were accepted to nu in early decision, and 1600 were accepted to nu in early action, not all of them will accept, but if neu decides to keep them all on campus in the fall, it will be a huge difference in the amount of regular decision applicants accepted
does anyone know when to expect the release next week? the email only said next week
Wednesday most likely
Like my comment thx
I meant Wednesday March 11, but I was extremely wrong. Next Tues or Wed prolly
@mororo
@Scholar5424 I read your post from last night about being “advised” to expect less NU RD acceptances. Can you share who advised you on this info? I have an admitted EA student for NU.In.
