@jodomo Our son’s Status Check page has the following links on the left hand side: Decision Letter, Financial Aid, Scholarship & myNortheastern Portal Instructions. The Financial Aid link opens up a similar letter to what you posted that lists the scholarship and financial aid info. However, that last paragraph and signature is not there (we only got a loan offered as financial aid). Since you have to apply for the loan through the government may be why we don’t have the last paragraph about accepting.

TomSrOfBoston… you have a lot of background with Northeastern so would like to get your thoughts on NUin. NEU is currently telling NUin students that if the international options fall thru b/c of travel bans, virus, etc…, that these students will be located in Boston for the fall semester. Location is unknown and there’s talk of classes occurring off campus in/near Boston or potentially on line. That sounds so absurd and honestly not worth full tuition price. This takes away from the international experience. They expect students to make a decision when they don’t have key answers to their future?
@Search4Coll Not Tom but I can probably address what Northeastern is thinking.
I don’t think you’re wrong, but I think these are understandably uncertain times. I certainly don’t envy high school seniors at the moment. I think NU.in Boston is unlikely personally as based on timelines from China it seems this will likely play itself out by June/July, or August at worst, but I think Northeastern basically has to have a backup plan of something, and doesn’t have the space on campus until spring unfortunately.
Someone had to make the call of “completely cancel NU.in for an entire admissions cycle when it is likely that some locations will be fine or find a backup plan” and I think within that context it makes sense that they then narrowed to more likely safe locations + mentioned this mysterious Boston option.
I haven’t read this on any official site. As @PengsPhils stated everything is fluid for all universities. Northeastern offers many options for international study for upperclass students, most notably the Dialogues of Civilization pogram.
All the info I put in my post came directly from NEU when we called them regarding NUin…which is concerning b/c it’s not rumors, it’s what they are telling parents/students during a time when we are trying to make a HUGE decision. I want to go to this school. What’s crazy is that I may have to decide on another school based on my #1 school not able to give me accurate answers. I’m hoping for the best but I’ll put $$ that NEU doesn’t handle this right. Please keep us posted on any info you hear thru your connections.
@Search4Coll This is a very tricky situation for NEU due to its untraditional coop program and students coming and going all the time. There is so much at play and it is hard to know if the NUIN program accepted fewer students or if fewer students will accept that offer given all these crazy circumstances. If you are willing to be flexible, then NUIN either abroad in the countries still available or in some Boston location can work for you, but if that uncertainty is too much, then I do suggest you look to your #2 school. Not only is the COVID situation fluid, but NUIN functions to fill in for all the upperclass students that go on coop outside of Boston or for study abroad/international coops. Many of them will potentially have all of that cancelled, so they may be on campus taking classes, thus less room for NUIN students returning from their fall program. The other unknown is how all of this COVID will affect international students either being able to return to NEU or even coming in as frosh themselves. I understand your concerns, but until the admissions process starts to settle and more is known of this global COVID situation, I doubt you will get much more clarity from the school. One thing for certain though, is that NEU is a very untraditional fluid campus even in the normal times, so it might be worth considering if that fluidity is something you can manage. I know it is a challenging time for everyone, and I do wish you the best of luck in making the right decision for you and your family.
Appreciate the answer and showing why this is not an easy answer. I guess many of us are very disappointed on the lack of a plan that NEU had for this. Felt like “just accept as many as we can and then we’ll figure it out” mentality. Not a good look for the decision makers at NEU. Still keeping up hope though!
anyone else still waiting for financial aid? i had to submit additional documents in the beginning on march and still haven’t received my financial aid package.
We submitted all paperwork way back in November and are still waiting for financial aid package. We contacted SFS and got a reply “Financial aid package is being prepared; It will be available on your portal, once completed.”
We have no idea how many students Northeastern accepted for regular and NUIn this cycle. All we have seen are posts here on CC and based on my following these decisions for the past several years the number of posts is smaller than in past years. Your “just accept as many as we can and then we’ll figure it out” mentality." is your own interpretation of the situation and not based on any published data.
Hi, I saw you are very knowledgable about college admissions, especially in the Boston area. I was wondering if you think that this year because of COVID-19, waitlist acceptances will be higher? Less international students and out-of-state students are likely to commit and yield rates will be lower at a lot of places I’ve heard. I am waitlisted at both Boston U and Northeastern and am sending both a LOCI. Really want to be accepted to at least one of these and I will definitely go if offered the spot. Please let me know what you think, thanks!
@Search4Coll I understand that this is challenging time to make a decision. As a current parent and an NEU parent since 2012, I am actually quite impressed that NEU staff have at least told NUIN families what they know so far – that the three locations are even possibilities (they would not have said that without some contingency plans developed quickly) and that they have some sort of back up plan in Boston already. I know you want definitive answers, but honestly, I doubt any campus can provide that right now. No one even knows if classes for anyone will be on any campus or online in the fall. But as I said before, NEU is a very untraditional campus/program altogether with NUIN being an additional risk/challenge/new start for some willing students even in normal times. I work at a different university of comparable size and I know the day to day challenges that this COVID situation brings – and I have been impressed with how well the staff have done altogether.
going insane waiting for this financial aid. i just want to commit
@twicemama thanks for the response. we (my parents and i) can understand your position on this but many of us just aren’t completely sold that they are handling this well…even due to the rare circumstances. there has been NOTHING sent to NUin students regarding an update or a chance to have a live Q/A. even when you call them, it’s a basic scripted answer. you might be right when you said that maybe those who can’t handle the uncertainty should choose their #2 school. i say that if a school administration can’t handle something like this in a informative , respectful way, then maybe that says something about those running the school. NEU is my #1. i’m not ready to move on to #2 yet but we need NEU to have some dialog with all these students.
@Search4Coll It looks like Northeastern just added a NU.in Boston option to address your (and I’m sure others) concerns about NU.in and other locations. Few details yet but it seems like they will come before May 1st.
Just made a discussion for it specifically: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/northeastern-university/2182106-northeastern-adds-nu-in-boston-p1.html
NU in Boston option now! That’s great because I wasn’t interested in starting abroad and was turning down NU because of this…now torn between NU and Lehigh.
@Luckyjade2024 Between those two schools I would consider Notheastern’s location in Boston versus Lehigh’s location. There is so much more to do in Boston. Northeastern’s Co-op program is also something to research as it is a great way to not only gain experience, but to really figure out what you want to do. Also the indoor spaces at Northeastern versus those at Lehigh. Good Luck!
thank you
