That’s unethical. Why do you feel you need to do this? What’s the advantage?
Because we can only have time to visit the universities late April before my son can make decision and I was afraid about housing availability if he decide so near to May 1. You don’t think it’s necessary?
Housing availability is going to depend on the specific schools. It would probably be better to start a separate thread to ask about housing at the various schools where your son is admitted?
For example at UMN, you can apply for housing before you commit to enroll at the school. I would recommend doing that, if UMN is a possibility that your son might choose. At many other schools, however, you can’t apply for housing before committing to the school. It will depend on the school.
Will students get lower merit if NU gave them a higher grant?
You may have also received needs-based financial aid, but make sure you understand what is included. A $15K scholarship only would result in billed expenses of $66,472 according to this snip from the NU website:
Thank you! Will check!
Oh really? I didn’t know there is this risk
I wish every school at least offered that chance to go ED2. We reached out to an EA deferred school (my daughter’s 1st choice but hesitant to do ED1 for financial reasons) and they said that you couldn’t change plans once you received “a decision.” They are calling a deferral a decision, which is so wrong.
She said $15K per semester! So $30K a year. Her number of $50K is right.
Can you let me know if you get a response? Pre-reads aren’t widely advertised - frustrating but would help in our odd situation (husband is in full-time ministry and we live in a parsonage).
That was exactly my point to the Julie lady yesterday.
DD got accepted to Boston Honors. She didn’t expect that.
Her stats:
3.94 GPA
1540 SAT
7 APs
Great ECs, leadership positions, volunteering and work experience
School doesn’t rank
From Massachusetts
She got merit scholarship of about $20 a year
So, my D23 was awarded an Honors program scholarship of $20k/year, but she is also a National Rural/Small Town Recognition Award recipient and we didn’t see any mention of that in her scholarship notification. Does anyone know if she would get something for that in addition to the Honors scholarship? I’ve tried emailing the address listed on their site but they’re obviously swamped right now.
Replies have been flying fast and furious on this thread, so apologies if this has been answered a million times already
My DD’s college counselor told her NE Boston EA acceptance is below 6% this year.
There is no reason to deposit early if on campus housing is guaranteed for first year students who commit by May 1, unless the school allows a housing deposit without an admission deposit, the student is very particular as to the type of housing, and priority for housing type is determined by date of housing application. If housing is not guaranteed for first year students, and if you don’t need to accept admission to get in the queue for housing, it may be worthwhile to put down a housing deposit. I agree that it would be a good idea to start a thread regarding housing at the schools to which your student has been accepted.
$20K I meant!!!
Has anyone heard about when ED2 comes out?
6.7% for Fall, 2022 due to compensating for the over enrolment in Fall 2021.
Newbie here ! Daughter got accepted to NU Oakland. Did some research and looks like it’s a merge with Mills College out in Oakland. Has anyone tried to switch to a different campus ? Pretty sure in her Common App she tagged no global.
