Northeastern University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

Same here, I got into Oakland and I’m trying to figure out when I could switch to the Boston campus. I marked to only consider me for the Boston campus, anyways.

Ah ok I missed that detail. Sorry for my confusion @karin2! Congrats on your great offer to NU!!

Oakland is a new campus for them . Notice the acceptance letter uses admit into “inaugural NU Oakland” or something like that. One has to wonder if it’s a way of channeling them to build the Oakland Campus for the not-deferred, not-rejected, but not into Boston applicants ! interesting !

There is information here about when and how transfer opportunities are an option.

Confused though one when one could transfer to a different NEU campus (say, Oakland to Boston) if it’s not concerning major changes but rather a location change.

After sophomore year.

There’s no way to do it after a semester?

They are making these students pay for their own mistakes of over admitting in past years. Sad.

I don’t work for them, but I think the answer is probably no. They have X number of spots for Boston. If you really don’t want to go to Oakland, you should probably consider a different school. I am not trying to be harsh, but I don’t think you want to go to Oakland with the mindset that you will convince them to let you change if they haven’t offered you that path.

I understand that- I do live in boston so being put on the oakland campus was a bit of a surprise to me, and I only marked being considered for the boston campus on my application since that campus is so close to home.

In the meantime, I’ll wait to hear from my other schools and then see what to do.

Not according to their website if the offer was for 4 years in Oakland.

…yup, the offer was for 4 years in Oakland. Whelp.

Haha anyone know when ED2 is out

You could contact the admissions office directly and ask them to clarify their policy on campus transfers from Oakland to Boston, considering the offer you received. I am sure they are very busy, but it is probably the only way to get a definitive answer.

Saw this on reddit:

For those wondering, According to the Northeastern website, students at NEU Oakland can transfer to Boston after their first year IF it is for a program not offered at Oakland. In the case the program is offered at Oakland, you will be eligible to transfer after your second year studying.

Yes, I have seen that mentioned here as well, but I think that instead of relying on reddit or this thread, @premed_equestrian would be better off getting it straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.

Here is the answer from the Northeastern website:
" Campus Transition Opportunities

Northeastern University Oakland undergraduate students are eligible to request to transition to another Northeastern undergraduate campus after their first year of study if they are seeking to transfer into an academic program not offered on their original campus. Students must also meet general major change criteria as outlined by the Office of the University Registrar.

Additionally, all undergraduate students at Northeastern University Oakland or Boston campuses can request to transition to another undergraduate campus after their second year of study. Upon completion of their second year of study, students may also request to transfer into the same academic program if offered at the new campus. Students must also meet general major change criteria as outlined by the [Office of the University Registrar]
(Changing Majors - Office of the University Registrar at Northeastern University)."

It’s always worth a try, but it’s directly on the website. I’m pretty sure whoever answers the phone is going to give the same answer.

That metaphor is funnily enough, ironic- because, well, I’m an equestrian. Although I will say horse breath stinks.

But think of it this way . So these accepted students to NU Oakland will be the only students there ? Isn’t it the inaugural afterall, remember ? Where are they getting the Soph/Jr./Seniros from !!! what will the campus look like without them. Only Freshman’s ? along with whoever decided to stay from the defunct Mills College ? How about hired Faculty ! are they as good as the ones in Boston. Doesn’t look very appetizing to me for a college experience to be honest. Specially that you will be paying mucho $$$. But like someone else here said “you can always go somewhere else” Ha !
