Last year it was mid-December so I’m assuming around that same time

@allycat231 They have pushed back the EA decision date by a month this year.

@TomSrOfBoston wait really?! Well darn. Thanks I guess haha

So do we hear back mid-january then?

does anyone know if it is possible for me to change my EA app to EDII even if i already submitted??

@sarahc7327 Contact an admissions officer - likely it is possible by withdrawing your EA application and reapplying EDII, though it may mean an additional application fee. It’s possible that they could switch it to EDII directly, but I haven’t heard of it, partially because this is the first year of EDII.

I think ED has heard back in the first week of december the last few years

EA decisions being sent in January is pretty annoying… Means we can’t wait for the EA results to decide whether or not to submit our RD applications. Not even good for colleges. They now have to review RD submissions which would not be there if the EA decisions would have been sent a few weeks sooner.
Ah wel… I’m afraid that I will never truly understand the admission process…

@maby56 ED around December 10th in the past.

The website said 5-10 business days after all the paperwork gets received.

Looking at past threads, would this Thursday be a reasonable date to expect ED decisions? What time of the day have they generally come out around previously?

Northeastern has changed things up so much last year and this year that past actions cannot be extrapolated to the present anymore.

In the past ED decisions came out around 7 PM, EA decisions starting around 3 PM and continuing for several hours. All times EST.

What significant changes have been made? Additionally, did Northeastern give any kinds of heads up prior to releasing the decisions, or did they just come out suddenly?

On a thread from last year it looks like the decisions came out on December 8th.

@maby56 This year they added ED II and moved the EA decisions from December to January. Last year decisions did not follow the pattern of past years e.g. decisions came out on Tuesday or Wednesday instead of Thursdays as in years past.

As previously state, ED II was added this year. Here’s my take:

  1. ED II was added to capture those for whom NU is 2nd choice and who got rejected by their 1st choice ED or EA school.
  2. Defer EA decisions to allow pooling of EA and ED II applicants and prevent giving too many admissions to EA at the expense of ED II.

This strategy allows the school to capture a greater number of ED students, increasing their “yield” numbers. This helps maintain or increase the all-important US News ranking, and we know that NU has a strong ongoing focus on its ranking.

ED decisions should be by Dec 15, EA decisions now come out later, by Feb 1, and ED II by Feb 15.

Though wouldn’t they want to cut ED I numbers down with the introduction of ED II?

What does everyone think about admission rates this year? Do you think they will drop?
