Northeastern vs UBC vs Santa Clara?

Hi guys and gals,
I’m applying for business/accounting. As of right now, I’m currently considering either UBC, Santa Clara University, and Northeastern University, and I’m waiting to hear back from UC Berkeley (doubtful I could get into Haas second year), UCLA, U Southern Cali, and U of Toronto Rotman.
I was wondering about your opinions on how these schools stack up, if the cost for me will be about the same. I live in the SF area, so SCU is just 30 minutes away, but I really like Vancouver as a city. I also plan to get a masters or PhD, as well as summer internships, so how do the job prospects and possibilities look?
Thanks for the help!

Hey,

Unfortunately, I can’t give you very good comparisons for those schools. But, for the sake of conversation, here’s my two cents:

In business finance (if that’s where you’ll be looking at interning) name recognition is generally a big factor. For that, Berkley may be your best bet.

With that said, Northeastern is going to put you in Boston - one of the world’s hubs for business and accounting. On top of that, the co-op program is basically 2 or 3, 6-month full time jobs that are built in to the system. At most traditional schools, internships are stressful and fairly independent endeavors. Here, you would have a co-op class, co-op advisors, and a pretty large database of places to apply.

So there’s the northeastern pitch. Spend some time looking in the CC forums for those other schools! Each has a distinct personality - maybe getting familiar with each will help

Good luck!

Are you a Canadian or dual citizen? If not you will be full pay at UBC and Toronto. Can you parents afford to be full pay?

Ah, forgot to mention. I’m a US citizen, but once scholarship money from SCU, NEU are factored, UBC will be about the same, if not cheaper, just 'cause Canadian schools are cheaper.
@julianstanley Thanks for the input tho! Boston does seem like a great hub.

International tuition in business at UBC is C$30,000/year.

I think that’s in Canadian dollars. At a 1 to .7 conversion rate, it comes out to about 23k$ ish. If it was in USD, that would cost much more than most international costs for US state schools.

There’s a lot of fit differences and environment differences between the schools - as far as internships, as julian mentioned, NEU is going to be hard to beat with its location and amazing resources (#1 rated career center for most years in the last decade). It’s also going to be part of the culture at NEU versus the others. Additionally, Boston is one of my favorite cities - have you visited?

All of them are solid programs - UCB and UCLA stand out in terms of reputation, but the rest are in the same neighborhood.

@PengsPhils, USC Marshal is on par with UCB and UCLA programs.
