Northwestern Economics classes

I'm an incoming student to WCAS for economics and I was wondering about the level of difficulty for the core classes. I have credit for ECON 201 (Intro to Macro), but that's it. For the others: 202 (Intro to Micro), 281 (Intro to Econometrics), 310-1 (Micro 1), 310-2 (Micro 2), 311 (Macro), which ones are notoriously difficult?

Currently I'm planning out my schedule for the next few quarters so I can give myself some more breathing room when I need to take the courses that kids typically struggle on.

I don’t understand. Incoming student? ED? Transfer?

Transfer.

202 is a piece of cake if you’re and Econ major. 281, 310-1, 310-2, and 311 are notoriously hard. Stat 210 is also considered to be relatively difficult depending on your teacher. None of these classes are impossible It’s all about having the right teacher. I took Stat 210 and Econ 310-1 the same quarter and 281 and 310-2 the next quarter. They can be tough if you’re trying to manage multiple of these classes at once but I know people who have taken 3 of them and been fine. Looking at CTECs on CAESAR will help you figure out which teachers are easier/better.

Got it. Thank you!

For Northwestern’s discussion sessions, are they mandatory or are they more for students who are still having trouble understanding the lecture? At my current school they are included on our schedules but you only go to them if you need clarification or help.

@pillow‌ depends on the class. some professors will have small quizzes be given in discussion, but most its just to further get the material. For my classes a lot of the midterm/final material is similar to the discussions so its always helpful to go
