What type of clothing do most Northwestern students don at any time through the year? Greek fashion would be especially help. Is it preppy, casual, lazy, does it show a lot of logos, etc. I ask this because my current attire includes a lot of t-shirts from AE, Aero, A&F, and Hollister, which I fear will be considered way too "high schooly" for college. Should I look into investing in more dress shirts, polos, etc.?

Not worried about lower-body apparel. As far as I know, jeans are commonplace everywhere, as are khaki shorts. I have a belt which I wear regularly. I also have new Nike shoes for next year, if that's important.

I already have a list of winter clothing to brave the weather, so I'm not too worried about that. It includes water-proof boots, a down coat with a hood, a fleece jacket, long underwear, and wool socks, if you were interested or have any more suggestions.

Also, I realize that a lot people will probably not care what I wear. This is mainly for looking my best while rushing, at parties, and so on.

Don’t wear logo tees to rush events or to parties in general. “Going out” attire is flexible – some girls wear jeans and a cute top, some wear casual party dresses, some wear skirts and tops. No t-shirts. For rush, there is a dress code that is fairly simple to follow. For the first two days of rush you wear a provided PNM (potential new member) t-shirt. The next two days are still casual, but you wear your own clothes – most girls wear jeans with boots, a nice top, sweater, etc or maybe a casual dress and tights or something. Then there is preference night, which is formal. Almost everyone wears a black dress, though that is not required and it might actually be a good idea to wear another color and stand out.

As for general Greek fashion, as a member of the Greek community, I think there is great variation in what sorority girls wear. Generally speaking, it is preppy, although there are also a lot of cute, eclectic – not too eclectic – girls who dress in a more bohemian sort of way. Also a lot of sporty girls who just wear the Northface jackets all the time. Girls wear their letters a lot more than guys do.

Sorry if that’s not specific enough. I’ve only been here a year, but I have been through rush and these are just some general observations. :)
