Essay shows (i think very well) strong passion for medicine/ dire financial circumstances at home with single mother and little sister, my compassionate character.

Looks to me like you are a strong applicant with good extracurriculars. It will probably come down to how well you explain your ECs and how well you presented yourself in your essay and overall application. Let us know if you get an interview!

I was wondering if you could tell me how HPME committee will review my application.

While I don’t have the extensive volunteering hours that paulshoon has, I have shadowed quite a bit.
Shadowed Neurologist (54 hrs)
Shadowed Gynecologist in India (107 hrs)
Shadowing OB/GYN currently (4 hrs/wk)

Does this look strong or is it something other applicants have as well?

Thanks! Your words have been very helpful on this thread.

BUMP…Should I call the HPME admissions and notify them that an “emergency came up or that I thought post offices were going to be open, but they were not.” Please tell what I should do.

My recs were mailed in already, but my Application was postmarked today instead of yesterday…WILL THEY AUTOMATICALLY REJECT ME??? I am so worried.

^ I really hope it’s not that easy to change the postmark date on something since sometimes postmark dates are used as evidence for legal and governmental purposes and such. I’m sure there are regulations behind this.

yeah i asked my dad and he said that they 100% will not. besides, it is already mailed out now, nothin i can do. Shoudl I call them and sort of jsut mention that I dropped it off Jan 1st, but dont know if it will be postmarked them or should i just not call at all?? Help please.

theyre not going to throw out your application. you already had your rec letters sent in, which means you already have a file with them…everything is fine.

Man. What a game. NU should have won. Kind of hard to spot Auburn 14 points right at the beginning and then have to come back. But NU kept coming back and nearly did it. Last year the Alamo Bowl and this year the Outback Bowl – another overtime bowl loss. Maybe next year. Go 'Cats.

Just keep your fingers crossed and wait. By calling you may be calling attention to your missed post mark deadline. They may continue to take mail a few days after the post mark deadline without checking the post mark. If you are lucky, they may not actually throw out the applications until next week. If I remember correctly, someone else had a similar problem last year. You may want to check the old posts, but there is not much you can do except wait at this point. Good luck.

Have they begun to offer interviews? I spoke to someone from the HPME office and she said that they will be notifying candidates as early as this week all the way up to mid-February. If someone has receieved interview notification, can they post up their stats?

i spoke with the director of the program in the undergrad admissions office. i think the name was luis tabor or something. anyway, she said interviews will be offered in february. the ones in january are supposed to be for regular med school applicants, not applicants for the bs/md program.
