Hello! I am a prospective transfer student to Northwestern and I just wanted to know what my chances might be? I am currently a freshman at Connecticut College, one of the NESCACs, which is a pretty competitive school as far as they go. I plan on applying to the School of Communication as a hopeful Theatre and Film major. I guess I’ll just format it the same way I have seen others do it!
High School:
GPA: My high school GPA ended up being around a 95 weighted (my school didn’t do GPA’s on the 100 scale), I didn’t have great grades freshman and sophomore year, but in junior year I got better and senior year I got straight As, even high 90s in all my APs, If I had to take a guess as to what it would be unweighted, I’d say probably a 92 or 93.
ACT: 32
APs: AP lang (5), APUSH (5), AP lit (5), AP Physics (3), AP Latin (2), probably won’t send those last two in lol
ECs:
I was very involved in high school-president of student ambassadors, partook in multiple theatrical productions per year (with leading roles the last two years, as well as being director for one show senior year and stage manager junior), national honor society, latin national honor society, newspaper club, latin club, and founder of drama club and film club at my school.
College:
GPA: 3.8-3.9
Classes: Italian, Acting, Intro to Gender and Women’s Studies, and my FYS which was Virtual Realities in Japan (Sem 1)
Italian, Technical Theater, Intro to Film, The Making of Modern East Asia (Sem 2)
ECs: I am a member of a long form improv comedy group on campus which meets 3 times a week and has performances about once a month, as well as our outdoors club (my school really does not have a lot of student organizations or I would be a member of more).
I acted in my school’s first mainstage play of the semester and was wardrobe crew head for the second mainstage of the semester.
I will be directing a play next semester with my school’s student theater org, and will probably partake in other productions as they come.
Job Experience:
I hold a job as the photographer/videographer, social media coordinator, and company manager for a theater based non-profit in my state, and have since 2016.
Recommendations: I’m going to try to get recommendations from my acting professor and my FYS professor, as I feel they got to know me the most, and I did well in their classes. I also wonder if I should get a recommendation from the head of our theater department, as he was my director in the mainstage and I feel I could probably get him to write me a good one. Is this too much as a supplemental recommendation or no?
Extra info: I take a lot of artistic photography and also do my own paintings and ink artworks, so I will try to submit those as supplements if possible. Unfortunately, my school does not have any student film organizations whatsoever, so it has been hard to become involved in film making or watching in any way.
I am worried about my course load and if it is too focused on certain things, but honestly with the way my schedule worked out and the things I was interested in, it was about all I could do! I also worry about my high school transcript dragging me down, although I have really succeeded at the college level and know I will continue to do so, I worry admissions reps won’t see that. Please let me know what you think!
