I’m going to be applying to Northwestern on regular decision for a dual degree, so both the college for arts and sciences and the music school. I’ve only gotten to take the SAT once and plan to take it a couple more times this fall as well as the U.S. History, Math Level 2, and Literature subject tests. I’m also thinking of taking the ACT each month too, just so I have double the tries for the score I’m hoping for. Audition aside, I’d like to know what my chances will be for when I apply in the winter:
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.6
Honors/AP Classes: 7 Honors, 7 AP throughout all 4 years; I have gotten straight A’s in all classes throughout high school (and expect to get all A’s this year)
Class Rank: 11 out of 300+ students (I don’t have the exact number of students, sorry!)
SAT: Current score - 1320 (590 math, 730 reading/writing) - expect to work my way up to a 1500+ composite in the fall; will take 3 subject tests (listed above)
AP Scores:
-AP U.S. History - 4
-AP Language - 5
-Plan to take AP tests for Literature, U.S. Government, Psychology, Spanish, and Calculus AB
Extracurricular Activities/Leadership Positions:
-High School/College Level Orchestra: Concert master
-High School Level Orchestra: Concert master
-High School Swim Team
-Community Swim Team (over the summer)
-Pulsar Search Team (Astronomy club where we analyze data from radio telescopes to search for pulsars, a type of star); Team Leader
-Spanish National Honor Society (plan to run for a position)
-National Honor Society (may run for a position)
Honors:
-Accepted into All-State Orchestra every year of high school
-Accepted into Honors Orchestra every year of high school except one year, when I was unable to go
-Multiple school-level student excellence awards
-Attended a state-level honor’s academy
-Won science fair twice on school level, honorable mention and first place
-Won social studies fair once on school level (no specific places were awarded)
-Credited in a published scientific paper (accomplished through the Pulsar Search Team)
Jobs:
-Part of a paid group of musicians, run by my county’s orchestra program, that plays for events such as weddings, graduations, and parties
-Self-employed musician, plays for the same types of events as above as well as musicals
Recommendation Letters:
-2 academic (from my english and creative writing teachers)
-2 music (private violin instructor and school violin teacher)
Not everything is set in stone, like the expected test scores, but I plan to continue all my current extracurriculars and most likely won’t have trouble keeping straight A’s this year. I tried to keep it as simple as possible while still giving all the info that will be on my application, so I’m sorry if it’s still a lot of information. Thanks!
