Are there any stats about the numbers of applicants for ED and RD for 2023? I can’t find anything current.

For ED, they got just over 5200 applications and admitted just over 1000 applicants, about half of the freshman class.

Thank you.
Do you know if they admit by major/college?

By college but not major.

did anyone who got in ED get an email recently about a concern in their grades? how bad were your grades? what are the chances that one’s admission could be rescinded?

I don’t know anyone who got in ED.

My son applied RD, but i assume this is a concern about your mid year grades? Was it addressed to you specifically or just a general letter reminder that final grades still matter?Maybe reach out to admissions to stay ahead of it. Luckily its not a final transcript and there is still time to improve the grade in question.

My son got in ED but didn’t get any email like that. Having said that, my son’s mid year grades remained very consistent with his junior year final grades. I have heard - and we know what that is worth- that northwestern only rescinds 1-2 ED admissions per year and the fall in grades must be pretty drastic, but that is third hand. Can’t imagine going from all As to all Bs for example would result in rescinding the admission!

Why were they allowed to apply at all? This puts others at an unfair advantage. They dont need to withdraw until they get their financial packages first. People in the “Know” can read into this. Pick your top school and get in early , if you change your mind site financial hardship. The high stats kids who applied ethically and morally have been waitlisted and flat out rejected because so many kids are apply to ED & REA all over with little oversight.

What financial aid documents has Northwestern downloaded ? Should there be a long list or short list?

Many kids who do ED/REA send some RD apps before the early comes out, mainly for time-management and planning purposes. Really, it would be an absolute nightmare to fill up all RD apps in the last 2 weeks of Dec. (amid finals weeks) if you didn’t get a favorable result from your early school.

Also, REA isn’t binding, so I suppose you’re allowed to apply RD all over. But, this makes me quite mad, too. 99% of the time, the student ends up committing to their REA school, yet holds up spots at other schools “just to see where else they can make it in.” I personally know someone who got in Stanford REA and applied to 23 other RDs, most of which she wouldn’t pick over Stanford. Frustrating.

There are many kids who need to compare financial aid. They don’t have the luxury of choosing one school. They need to see where they can get best deal. The top students who cant choose a ED school because they need multiple financial aid offers to compare are the ones I feel horrible for. It looks like many of these schools arent their top priorities. When the truth is, theyre just trying to be financially responsible.

Oh, I can guarantee finances aren’t an issue with the student I described. In fact, they’re full-pay and haven’t applied financial aid anywhere.

Ik im just letting you know that not every student is doing that . It’s unfortunate that this is where we are at with this. Schools are protecting their yield and kids who have sacrificed have to decide if they want to committ to a life of debt to get into the school of their dreams.
