What is the source for the 70% offered deferred admission? Northwesternâs letter to counselors, available on their website, says deferrals are âleanâ and they âaim to give final decisions whenever possibleâ.
Agreed, I had always heard they defer very few.
I really hope that is the case because I really want to get in

Has anyone accepted ED received their info packet yet? Was supposed to be sent by US mail.
No nothing yet. Last year, it was mailed sometime in mid January.
Thanks. Seems like there is no special ED admitted student weekend, just the regular one in May?
Is there any deadline for when you must withdraw other applications if accepted ED?
Per Northwestern: âUpon being admitted to the Early Decision program, the expectation is that you will withdraw any other admission applications and deposit at Northwestern by February 1. While this is considered a binding contract, there is an exception in cases of financial hardship. If the financial aid award makes it impossible for you to attend, please petition the director of financial aid for release from the Early Decision contract.â Early Decision Application Instructions: Undergraduate Financial Aid - Northwestern University
At my Dâs HS, the guidance counselors had students accepted ED withdraw their other apps as soon as possible.
some schools say within 2 weeks. Why would you delay? Feb 1 seems late. Lots of EA decisions come out in January. You shouldnât let it go so long you are taking a spot away from someone who might attend.
Our school requires withdrawal of all other apps within 2 days! Anyway why wait?
Did anyone have an interview with someone from the alumni admission council? My son has one coming up and was looking for some info on what to expect? ( for RD).
Hi,
I was accepted ED and had an interview in November. It was very standard and included all sorts of questions designed for a student to describe what they have done and why Northwestern is the right fit as they consider where to attend. It will likely last 1-2 hours. Let me know if you need anything else
1-2 hours for an alumni interview is an outlier. Most of the times they are only 30 minutes or so.
did your son request an interview? I didnât think NWU did interviews.
He received an email asking if he wanted one. Then it said he would be contacted when someone was available. He received an email from an Alumni about 3 weeks later. It is scheduled for Tuesday for about 30 minutes.
My sonâs interview (also accepted ED) was similar in subjects, lasted about half hour. Pleasant and mostly about his activities and interests.
