northwestern university for flute

Good Morning! I would appreciate any input from parents and students about their experience at Northwestern University for flute. Especially appreciate experiences with the new flute professor there, Mr. Thorne, who followed Mr. Kujala. My S is auditioning there in February. Thank you.

I am a graduate of NU and I studied with John Thorne. I can’t recommend him enough. All of our graduating students who spent our last year of him successfully accomplished our goals for upon graduation (such as being accepted for a top choice master’s program, and winning professional orchestral jobs), and he played a big role. He works a lot on audition psychology/mentality which I find extremely beneficial. John works really hard at bringing in great teachers for masterclasses and events, last year we had Mathieu Dufour, Stephanie Mortimore, Marianne Gedigian and Leone Buyse, and Mark Sparks came this year. John also teaches an orchestral excerpts class separate from studio class. If you haven’t checked out the studio website yet, here’s a link: [The Flute Studio of Northwestern University](http://northwesternflutes.com)
Your son will know what is the right choice for him, good luck.
