I am not concerned with comparing academics because both schools are exceptional and i know i will be satisfied with either, i want to know what life is like at these two schools.
which one has more of a rural green college town type of feel, more spirit for sports, parties, greek life, personality of typical student, etc.

Someone else can chime in for Northwestern; my D’s at Emory. Athletics are not huge at Emory since they’re Division III (although the swimming and volleyball teams are pretty competitive.) Emory students seem more pre-professional in their outlook (lots of pre-med and business majors) but there’s plenty of on-campus clubs and activities for fun and making friends. There’s a decent party scene, but it’s not a huge party school, which is one reason my D selected it.
Emory’s greek life is 25-30%, lower than other Southern schools.

The main campus is in the Druid Hills suburb (very pretty, Lullwater Park is next to Emory Hospital) 5 miles outside of downtown Atlanta; students use MARTA buses and shuttles to Centennial Park, malls, airport, etc. Emory is recognized nationwide for being an environmentally “green” college.

Why not apply to both and see if you get into either one?

Why not actually visit both, during a time that each school is in session? That should help a great deal, and probably answer a good number of your questions.
