Northwestern Voice

Hi to all

Iauditioned and got rejected last year for nu's vocal perf. program, however it was most definitely my top choice. As a prospective transfer student, is there a way that you can reaudition for a school that rejected you previously? Also, just wondering. How hard is it to get into theirprogram asatransfer? Can you get in midyear (likefor winter?) If not,I'll find other schools...Although I really am clueless as to whereto search.

Jeremy - you are scaring me. You are getting desperate and desperate people don't make wise choices. Take a breath. Did you get admitted anyplace other than Tulane? Is a transfer there possible? Is there a high school or private voice teacher who can help you with this?

Hey cartera45,

Sorry! I know I'm coming across as desperate but...actually youre right. I'm desperate toget out of tulanei just am absolutely miserable. Im sitting at the hotel in the city with my mom (just visited) and i'm just completely ahhh. I told her i want her to chain me to her so that i won't have to go back. haha

It's possible to transfer, and I am having vocal lessons although he's kind of making my tone nasal so I'mnot quite so sure if that's the best thing. I don't know. I'm going to figure things out eventually (if they don't get figured out soon.)

Jeremy, I'm a little scared for you too. Is there someone you can speak with (non-virtual)? An advisor? Counselor? Like catera said, be very careful of making a desperate mistake or choice. Please slow down and keep doing the research, phone calls and make a confident choice after much consideration. Also, talk to your mom. Surely she can offer some advice, no? You are on the right track, just try not to rush it so much.

Good luck ~

You ask many questions in cyberspace that you could, and YOU SHOULD, get answered at the SOURCE by going to prospective school websites and CALLING the schools' Admissions Departments. You say you're desperate to transfer, but your actions DO NOT echo this. Once you get basic answers from the respective schools, there may be nuances that people here can help you with, which is why this forum is so great. Depending on Bassdad, Violadad and others to do basic leg work for you does not project an air of true desperation, nor demonstrate even a modicum of maturity.

Let's stay on your original post here.

You were rejected at NW last year, which I'm sure was disappointing and I do feel badly for you. It's tough not making the cut at the school you have your heart set upon. So what did YOU do about it?

Did YOU ask why you didn't make the cut?

If you did ask, are YOU working on those specific areas so you would have better success if you were to re-audition as either a new, incoming freshman or a transfer student?

Have YOU called NW to find out if they take mid-year or fall transfers?

Until you get the above questions answered by Northwestern or any of the other schools you may intend to apply for transfer, any posting here is just a waste of pixels.

Time for you to start taking responsibility for your future and get on the stick. The next post we'd all love to see is one where you start telling us about the positive things you've initiated.

Now get on with YOUR business and GOOD LUCK!

My $0.02...

Jeremy- I agree with cartera, rudysmom. And heed the advice of Imperial Zeppelin.

The ball is in YOUR court here. Pick up the phone and call these schools and get your answers. This is school specific info your last 3-5 posts have asked for. YOU have decisions to make. YOU need information and options. Do the legwork. YOU cannot make an informed choice without a basic plan and contingencies.

No one here will do it for you. Get on with it.

For those wondering, MANY audition based performance programs, be it instrumental, vocal, or MT do not permit spring admits. There are a few reasons for this including course offerings and sequence timings, instrument needs and balance, studio sizes, ensemble make-up requirements.

Some schools will allow a spring admit if the application and audition process is mainstreamed and the request is indicated at the point of acceptance.

Policies are school and department or area of concentration specific.
There is no blanket policy here and it is important to realize that the information can only be obtained by direct contact with the specific school.

My son deliberately was planning differing grad school apps so as not to be confined to spring admit schools. The available options would have severely limited his choices.

I don't want to be too harsh on Jeremy, who is obviously in a lot of personal angst and pain.

I have been following your posts, Jeremy, since last year, and it has never seemed as if you were content with your choice of school. I strongly recommend that you try to stay through the year. Immerse yourself in whatever you can, join groups, etc. I am just certain that in a school the size of Tulane, there are like minded people as yourself, and more than likely other students who share some of your passions. It is up to you to go and find them!

In the meantime, you can begin your research for transfer for the fall. I agree that determining why you were not accepted at schools last year is a really good start, because it will help guide both your search, and your practicing this year.

I would also recommend you find an advisor, counselor, etc. with whom to talk. You sound in pain, and young people in pain worry me. So please, take everyone's advice, and reach out for help, begin research and work on the next phase of your life. And who knows...if you really immersed yourself at Tulane, you might just find yourself happier there.

Best of luck to you, Jeremy.
