Northwestern vs Georgetown ED/REA for Business

hi, i’m a rising senior currently trying to decide where I should ED / REA (in the case of Georgetown) to. i want to go into business, focusing on marketing (although I’m not 100% sure about marketing specifically). I’ve toured both, and I feel like I enjoyed the vibes at northwestern more, but Georgetown is at DC, which I feel like would help with internships, and they actually have a business school. however, northwestern has a bunch of business related undergrad programs, like the LOC major, the business institutions minor, and the MMSS program, so I’m kind of stuck.also I’m not entirely sure how each stack up with job placement out of college though. what are yalls thoughts? thanks!

If you’re not completely sure Northwestern is where you want to go Georgetown REA leaves your options open whereas ED doesn’t.

Georgetown doesn’t have REA, it has EA and there is no admissions advantage to it.

LOL NU is in Chicago- plenty of internship opps. Also, most on-site internships are during the summer, and can be anywhere.

Job placement won’t be meaningfully different between the two- what will matter is what you actually do.

Georgetown doesn’t allow EA applicants to apply ED or, if accepted, ED2, hence why it’s called REA. (Unlike typical REAs you may apply to any other EA schools)

From the Georgetown site.

In keeping with this principle, students applying under the Early Action program may not apply to any binding Early Decision programs since they then would not be free to choose Georgetown if admitted. Students are, however, allowed to apply to other Early Action or other Regular Decision programs while simultaneously applying to Georgetown’s Early Action program.

Single choice early action programs don’t usually allow other EA applications either.

Which academically works best ?

What would you major in at Northwestern ? Ton are coming out of Northwestern and into the business world. Marketing is one of a few business disciplines where you don’t need the major. Today having a quantitative background, like stats or math, can be helpful. So the minor in bus institutions there is more than enough.

One thing to note - both are extremely diverse - about 1/2 white - and Gtown has a much higher acceptance rate overall although it’s still skinny. Gtown also has lower overall test scores but they are required vs TO.

Not sure where you got the idea that DC is better for jobs? Chicago is the 3rd biggest city in the country and loaded - absolutely loaded with forms from McDonalds, Allstate, Boeing - 35 of the Fortune 500 are hq there.

I would look at the big picture. Your stats including test (no option at GTown), other major at NU and where you feel best.

Lastly if you ED make sure your family can afford it. Run the net price calculator. If you are shown to be full pay, make sure they are ok paying what will be close to $400k for an undergraduate education.

Best of luck.
