Northwestern vs. Northeastern (full tuition) for premed (repost from NU forum)

So Northwestern or Northeastern for premed?

Full tuition to Northeastern which is nice but nothing at all to Northwestern, but that isnt a problem
would the higher GPA and coop at Northeastern outweigh doing premed at Northwestern?

Im currently in the Neuroscience program at NEU with honors etc. and Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern
although i may switch to engineering at NEU and do premed through that (they dont have biomedical though so maybe computer engineering with a BME minor)

Basically will it matter in the end?

“Full tuition to Northeastern which is nice but nothing at all to Northwestern, but that isnt a problem” - Wow, that’s great if cost is not an issue. Do make sure that your parents agree on that.

Although we like Northeastern, I also hear good things from friends about Northwestern (which seems to be a much more competitive school). Check around for med school related threads too - that may be key for your situation.

Read the pre-med forum, they know what they’re talking about. The general rule is that for pre-med, it matters most what you do as an undergrad, not where you do it. I have a few friends (several of them neuro majors) who have been very successful with med admissions from northeastern.

Northwestern’s a really top school and they have a superstar science department. As a strict pre-med it really doesn’t matter–you can get very equal ECs in at both NEU and Northwestern.

I’m actually a little biased toward Northwestern because I’ll be applying to grad school there and just think it’s a great place to be a scientist (of course, BOSTON is an even better place to be a scientist)… but as far as med admissions: if you’re a good student at either, you’ll get into a good medical school.
