Northwestern Vs. NYU for Film Student

I am a film student choosing between NU (communication) and NYU (tisch film).
Things that make me nervous about NYU:
Academically, not as strong as NU. Although film program is strong, what about general liberal arts?
Lack of a community feel. This is not a location or campus question, rather, that that tisch film is so competitive.
Size of program. 240 freshmen, and 330 after transfers sophmore year. Why so large?

For Northwestern, I really like the campus feel and smaller program (only 40-50 film kids a year). However, I hate the frat scene/conservative element and not as great film production facilities. I'm also nervous about moving into the professional world from evanston, into nyc or la. Somebody please help.

X-posted in NYU.

Bump...anyone out there?

Sounds like, in the end, although you have worries...Northwestern is the school for you! You will find friends at NU. There are a lot of opportunities in Chicago. It sounds like your oppinion of NYU is that you do not get as much one on one attention, it is big, no community, soso acidemics...I say go to NU...your reasons for hesitation are small:--)

Hey!
I am a Radio/TV/Film freshman at NU...I only transferred in last quarter, but I have a decent idea of what it's like to be a film major.
The film majors that I know are not very competitive. Studio22, our student-run production group, gives grants to projects that involve as many people as possible. There is a definite community here, and we help each other learn.
If you come in with AP credits, you can easily get a double major, which would be great for you with your liberal arts education worries.
There are actually more than just fifty people in RTVF per year...it's closer to seventy or eighty, I believe. But it's definitely not as big as NYU.
NU is not that conservative, and since film is located on south campus with the other humanities and arts, you'll be far away from the frat quads, which are up north, unless you decide to go for a res college or dorm that is up there...but why would you, since you'll spend most of your time in south campus?
A lot of films are shot in Evanston, and there are internships for credit in NYC and LA that you can take if you're really worried about the transition. You'll find that a lot of people in the industry are affiliated with NU, so it's not a huge deal.
I love it here, so I'm obviously going to try to convince you that this is the best place to be...which it is. :-)

And, if it makes you feel any better, Zach Braff (famous actors/ director, writer/director of Garden State at 26) is a Film Grad from Northwestern. Not too shabby.

haha, actually it makes me feel worse (I really disliked it). Actually, I've heard him speak and he said he really wasted his time at NU (he got a c- in screenwriting...funny because I think thats his worst area).
