which of these schools is the best for premed?
which is the easiest to get the highest gpa?
how is the campus life in these schools?
which college will give best opportunity for med school?
thanks!

I’ll discuss each school one at a time. Keep in mind that difficulty levels are relative and all 4 of these schools are of the highest level. I will ignore the last question as the key factor here is GPA and research which I will discuss anyway.

Northwestern is known as a pre-professional school. It has a high number of pre-med students in both the engineering school and the school of arts and sciences. The engineering school is known for its difficulty, which lowers the average GPA. The listed average is 3.4. However, there is some grade inflation and it is certainly possible to maintain a high GPA. There are plenty of undergraduate research opportunities, and many students perform research every summer, even after freshman year. Northwestern is a Big-10 school. Students are passionate about the school and its sports teams. Parties are easily accessible, and it is close to Chicago- a great city.

UChicago is known for making thinkers. They have a core requirement which can be a big boost in med school admissions. They pride themselves on making creative and intellectual thinkers, and med schools are always looking for thinkers. There is some grade deflation, but the average GPA is still ~3.5. There are research opportunities, but perhaps less so than at Northwestern. Much of Chicago’s research is in physics, math, and economics. However, biology and chemistry research IS still plentiful. Concerning the campus life, Chicago is know as the school “where fun goes to die.” Take from that what you will.

I do not know enough about Duke to answer you. So I’ll skip over that.

WashU is perhaps best know for their premed and med school programs. WashU does have a special and prestigious premed program with a low acceptance rate (this takes a special application) but those not in that program will still find that the premed program is topnotch. WashU is notoriously tough on your GPA. The average there is ~3.4. Campus life wise, the school is in a somewhat bad section of St. Louis. However, it is possible to go to the nicer parts fairly easily. St. Louis fails to stack up city-wise to Chicago.
