~93 UW numeric gpa (3.7?) probably 18 ap classes (yeah i shouldn’t have taken so many)
Transcript will report weighted (98).
I’m sure when they recalculate grades they’ll take off art and Spanish so that’ll be even lower (3.6?). I got a 36 act and i can probably get a 1600 SAT if i have to but i doubt it’ll help much since transcript is most important (shows work over an extended time, not just aptitude).
Also, I realize that this is fine for most schools! Am referring to reaches like HYPSM in this case.
Don’t take the SAT lol. You already got a 36 on the ACT.
Your UWGPA is a tad low, but you can make up for that by showing an upward trend, having an excellent array of ECs, receiving glowing recs, or all of those things.
Not much you can do about your GPA. Keep up the involvement in ECs, congratulate yourself on the 36 on the ACT, and ask for recs in advance. A lot of your application is already set in stone. Your stats are more than “okay.”
@mohammadmohd18 thank you this made me feel less bad lol. I head 3.7 is kind of iffy for reaches but at this point ECs and recs are probably where I should focus on.
Again, don’t worry about your GPA or what colleges do with it. They’re not gonna glance at your GPA and go “Aghast! What a foul number! I pity the fool that got this measly number!” Like no. 3.7 is just fine.
Look for teachers that love you and ask them for recs now. 6 months in advance is perfect.
Edit: I actually glossed over the fact that you took 18 ( ^:)^ ) APs. Holy mother of APs. I think that, while that isn’t an excuse for a lower GPA, it definitely helps your case.
Besides, converting from a 100 point scale to a 4.0 scale is very difficult. Did you get the 3.7 by doing a proportion? Proportions do not work because that would mean a 2.0 = 50%. It really just depends on the individual semester grades’ value and the school’s scale. Some make a 90-100 a 4.0; others do 93-100 = 4.0 and 90-92 3.7. Others make a 100 and 99 equate to different GPAs.
Seen better stats rejected from HYPMS and have seen worse accepted. Focus on your essays and recs at this point. If you still want a better idea of your chances (and if available), log on to your Naviance account and see where you land on your school’s scattergrams.
your gpa is going to be recalculated by admissions staff, so don’t worry too much about weighting and what courses your high school takes out. as tdy123 said, naviance is your best bet, but still with the ivies, stanford and the top LACs, it’s going to be very unpredictable because you’ll need a hook to get in - legacy, recruit-able athlete, URM, first generation in college (family context), art, music uniqueness. MIT, Caltech and the rest are more straightforward.
