Not allowed to hold the calculator during ACT test?!

I took the ACT today.
When I was using my calculator, the teacher kept telling me that I'm not allowed to hold the calculator(by hold I mean hold the calculator up in the air), she said I can only use the calculator by placing it flat on the table, she even said "if you hold it up again I'll take it away".
I also heard she said the same thing to other people.

Is this normal?
We're not allowed to hold the calculator up in the air?

That’s stupid and lame, you should be able to a least pick it up.

Why do you need to “hold it up in the air”?

That rule is not stupid, you could be showing the calculation/answer to other students by holding it that way, or was that your intention?

I was told the same thing last time.

Stop overreacting, I didn’t even mean it like that. Do you work for the act or something, calm down.

Excuse me, why would I want to show the nswer to other students? I don’t even know anyone of them in the room!
And it’s not like I’m hold it very high in the air. I only hold it in the air a little above my desk.

I’m holding it up in the air cause it’s hard to see the numbers on the screen if it is flat on the desk. (becuase of light reflection)

I’ve heard of the rule. It makes enough sense. It’s pretty crazy it was actually enforced though. I was really nervous yesterday that I was going to get my electronic watch taken away. I could feel eyes on me.

I have always held my calculator up and have never had any problems. Unenforced for the most part. I find it awkward to keep my calculator on my desk though
