Not an annoying superhuman for Brown, Vassar, Northwestern

Thank you so much- I need chancing with an update- my last chance I posted had a lot of "maybe"s, most of which didn't work out for transportation/timing issues.

I'm a junior. I already know that Brown, Northwestern, and Vassar are reaches. But low, high, etc. would be great. I've also got a few (okay, a lot) of other schools to look at, but if you can even chance one, that would be great.

I want to major in theatre. Some schools will require an audition. Please chance assuming I make the cut for theatre.

Brown, Northwestern School of Communications, Fordham(audition), Yale, Swarthmore, Middlebury, Cornell, UCLA(audition), Sarah Lawrence, Bard, Muhlenberg, Eugene Lang, NYU Tisch(audition)

SATs: 2360
ACT: Haven't taken it, but I'm guessing a 34, 35
School doesn't rank, but I'd be top 5%
APs: Soph: English Lang (5), Junior: English Lit(5 predicted), Chemistry(4 or 5 predicted), European History(5 predicted), Senior: AP French Lang, AP USH, AP Biology, AP Calculus
GPA: UW Freshman- 3.8, Sophomore-4.0, Junior-4.0, Senior-3.9(predicted)
W Freshman-3.8, Sophomore-4.0, J/S- something quite a bit over 4
Awards: Freshman: top student French I, Adv. English II
Sophomore(my soph-sen school doesn't give top student awards): Top writer in History class
Math team: 6th place regionally
I've been a year advanced in English since freshman year.
Likely some sort of AP Scholar
Likely National Merit Finalist
Probably several book awards
State awards in speech team- been doing speech and winning awards since 5th
grade
Likely debate awards

Extracurriculars:
Speech team 5-10th grade, debate team 11-12th grade
Varsity cross country, track 9th grade, varsity field hockey 10th grade
Had to discontinue sports in 11th grade to take up theatre program
twice weekly classes, lots of rehearsal, will probably have completed 7 shows
by graduation
School plays/musicals 6th-10th grade
about 100 hours volunteer work from various sources (this looks bad, I know)
Weekly voice lessons from 9th-12th grade with daily practice
Math Team- not a huge commitment, but still difficult to be chosen for

Essays: They will be really good. My writing is very strong
Recommendations: Probably glowing. My last parent/teacher conference was apparently pretty fawning.
Summer programs: 3 week academic programs since 4th grade, selected for the very-tough-to-get-into Governor's School for the Arts. Will probably be accepted into the Governor's Scholar program this summer- also very tough to get into.
Possible for this summer: internship with local magazine, literary magazine, lengthy theatre summer program, or Governor's Scholar academic program.

Potential Gap Year program- City Year. 1300+ hours, one year with underprivileged children in a city. But I will probably have to be accepted first and then defer enrollment, but I'll see if I can't announce my intentions on my application. That should help.

Early Decision: probably Northwestern, maybe Brown.

Thank you so much.

You are a superhuman.
I don’t see why any of the schools on your list would turn you down.
Your scores and grades are strong, focused ECs, you seem to be doing everything right.
I’m assuming you are a pretty good actor due to your multiple speech awards, so I don’t think the audition should be a hindrance for you.
Good luck and enjoy Northwestern or Brown, if those are your top schools!

Because there will be a thousand other applicants to those schools with more volunteering hours, or more sports, or more academic pursuits, or a better freshman GPA…you get the idea. But thank you.

There’s no need to sell yourself short. The flaws in your applications are tiny ones, especially in the face of such overwhelming accomplishment. You are truly one of those lucky students who colleges will be ferociously pursuing, come your senior year. Honestly, I think you have a strong chance at Yale, and near-automatic acceptance anywhere else. Quit stressing and enjoy your junior year. :)

ETA: Now that I think about it, if you have a whole year left until application time, why not volunteer a bit more? It’s certainly not necessary, but it wouldn’t hurt.

Well, I haven’t got a ton of time or transportation opportunities. Suggestions?

Assuming your rank is strong Vassar would be a safety. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into NU and you’re a credible candidate at Brown, but with an 11% admissions rate…

I did web design for my swim team for a while, though I suppose that kind of stuff isn’t easy to find. Does your school have an Interact Club? I didn’t find out about ours until this year, but it’s been a great resource so far. Service projects almost every weekend, and always someone willing to carpool.

If none of that works out, I honestly wouldn’t worry. You’re clearly passionate about other things, and no one is going to reject you because you have “only” 100 hours of volunteering.

i read your SAT score and then just stopped for calling people annoying super humans when you got a fudgin 2340.

this forum is so skewed, 50% of people have perfect everything, then the average people have scores that are top 2% in the nation, and then the bad with a gpa of 3.5-3.7 are actually outstanding compared to the real average kids.

The average gpa of a normal student is probably around 2.5 with the average act/sat around 21/1500.

Okay-I see your point. But if I didn’t know I had a least a shot-meaning I’ve got way above average stats-I wouldn’t be looking into these schools. But I haven’t written a novel, I haven’t interned at a university lab, I haven’t made any major steps towards improving my community. There are still weekends where I do all my weekend homework on Monday morning because I was just having fun all weekend. If you look at the Stats Profiles, I resemble plenty of Brown rejects.

I agree, you are not human with all that stuff you got going on. Do not worry about getting in, i’m sure you’ll get into most of those schools you’re applying to. Can’t get much better then what you have on paper.
