I studied abroad last year in West Africa at a school with a non- American curriculum hence there were no AP’s offered. It’s my Junior year and i’m only taking AP Biology (A) and AP Psych (B but ill get an A next semester) Next year i plan on taking AP Environmental Science, AP Comp Gov, and AP Art History and possibly AP AB Clac. Will colleges frown upon the amount of AP’s i take? The rest of my classes are Honors except for my Pre-Calc class…i kinda suck at math but excel in science. I go to a highly competitive school with a lot of AP’s offered. The reason i only took two this year was because i wanted to focus on AP Biology. It’s the hardest class in our school and it is my first year taking AP’s. What do you guys think? Not enough AP’s ?
I’m not sure what the point of your question is. You can’t change the past, so why dwell on it?
Obviously if you did a school year abroad and the program offered no AP’s, colleges will not hold that against you.
The quality of your writing in this and your other posts will be more problematic for admissions than the number of AP’s in your schedule. I suggest you invest a lot of time on your essays. Good luck.
@skieurope Bruh its the internet i couldn’t care less about my writing on here hahah, and the question is literally right there.
Doing a year abroad sophomore year will matter more than a couple AP’s in what it tells adcoms (you like to challenge yourself, etc). As for Aps, you only need 4-8 total for top schools, typically English Language and a few others (choose primarily from AP bio/chem/physics; AP history: euro, world, US; AP English Lit; AP Foreign Language; Ap Calculus AB or BC. Then, AP Econ, AP Gov, AP Art history, AP Music Theory…)

It is important that your current guidance counselor point out to the schools to which you apply that you had no opportunity for AP courses that year. You can certainly point it out as well. If that happens, you should not be penalized.
Studying abroad for a year in West Africa is much, much more interesting to adcoms than taking a bunch of AP classes. Lots of kids take ten more more AP classes. Very few study abroad for a year, and even fewer study abroad in Africa. You’ll be fine.
Thanks for feedback everyone!
