Not enough honors/APs?? What can I do?

Hi,

I'm currently a junior and I really want to get into Stanford, but my school counselor says I haven't taken enough honors and APs.
Last year I took Honors English but no APs. This year I am taking AP World History, AP English Lang, AP Psychology (self study). I was supposed to take honors Mandarin but they took it out cuz they got a new teacher so now its just regular Mandarin.
Next year I'm gonna take AP English Lit, AP Biology, AP Stat, two Honors English courses (I love English, writing is my passion), an Intensive Greek course which is an honors course, and potentially self study another AP (is it worth it?). I'm also taking Abnormal Psychology at community college and I'm going to a prestigious writing school for a few weeks over the summer where I will receive two college credits. I'm not sure how the whole college credit thing works (I know it is not the same as an AP course) and I don't know how colleges would view them.

Is there anything else I can do to show I really care about working hard? At the beginning of high school I didn't care at all but now I want to prove that I am capable. I also heard from my counselor that you can take APs in a different month other than May, but I can't find info on this. Can anyone clarify?

The AP tests are in May. Always. And your schedule sounds fine. Maybe you should add an AP math class in there? There’s nothing much you can do at this point because you’re in your junior year. If you found your schedule challenging then that’s all that really matters. People get accepted into difficult schools all the time without taking all honors and AP classes. Your schedule sounds rigorous enough. Don’t listen to your guidance counselor-take what he or she is saying with a grain of salt and do what you think is right. If you think self studying an AP is worth it, then do it. Otherwise, don’t do it, because you won’t stick with it and it’ll become even more of a burden.

Thank you. Math is not my best subject so maybe I should study AP Comp Sci instead…does this count as a Math course? At my school it requires a math prerequisite but it doesn’t seem to involve any math.

I’m in the same situation. My school offers just around 10 APs in total. I would focus on doing well on the APs you have and generally just do good on your SAT and maintain a high GPA.
