Not Looking So Good

I am making a new thread for this.
I think this worth taking a look at.
Again this is all SPECULATION...

taxi asked in another thread:"Was there no one who got a 3/25/09 update who got an oasis link today? "

observation: most people with 3/25 link didn't have an update for a VERY long time (in past yrs people who suddenly got one update close to april 1st got rejected..some spring admits)

(as we've seen, most people got the link 2 days after)

this only strengthens the validity of the assumption i made (that 3/25 or later update isn't looking good).

there were roughly 20 people who got that update...
no oasis link reported so far...
that doesn't seem good..of course this is just speculation..

People will hear their news - good or bad -, so let’s not speculate anything that can make us more nervous.

I’m about to do some digging into last year’s threads to see what I can find.

i see your point…but if you see the last hundreds posts, most people who are waiting for a decision are all speculating…a big part of this forum is trying to find connections/trends…i’m not saying it is valid, but there are people who just really want to know what’s going on

candy45, after looking at some of the older posts, I can definitely see where you would come up with your theory. It seems like most of the people who got updates on 3/26-2/29 ended up getting rejected, except for some people who applied to SCA and got multiple updates. However, I think there are a few more things to consider. First, that acceptances seem to running a little bit later than they were last year (according to a couple posts from the old threads, all decisions were sent out on 3/28/09). Second, I doubt the acceptance pattern this year is going to be exactly the same as last year. Finally, there are posts from people on the board recently saying that their are still acceptances to go out, even though it may only be around 1,000.

However, there is definitely something discouraging about a large amount of updates and no oasis link. I think there’s just no way for us to tell right now.

what is considered a very long time?
i had an update 02/17 to 03/25. im feeling rather pessimistic too.

Lets not get pessimistic yet. I had a friend who just got in yesterday, and someone in the USC 2013 thread posted about a friend who got in today. It’s not over yet.

I see the complete lack of OASIS links as they just don’t have time to add it to so many people’s statuses. I imagine this is a pretty massive wave, I assume they just want to get through all the applications as quickly as possible without wasting manpower on status-changing (however little manpower is needed to do that…).

I mean, how likely is it that NONE of us that got recent updates were accepted? Idk, I am think I am just really gunning for optimism.

Also, last year they were dealing with changes in what their statuses said, and not only the date. I’m not getting pessimistic yet.

Okay, I’ve been dying to say this, but I didn’t want to offend anyone:

I have two friends who aren’t the smartest students or most involved in their community, they both applied to USC. One is male (he is half Indian) the other is female (half Colombian). They both had a 24 on the ACT with a low 3.0-3.5 GPA. Neither of them have had the update! They are stuck at previous dates. Everyone on here has MUCH HIGHER STATS, meaning that it probably is a good thing that the update did happen. I think it may just be a coincidence about the “Acted Upon” status updates of last year. Please think about this and tell me what you think. :)

Is there a urm factor here?

I still haven’t had an update since 2/17.

But my only weakness is my GPA, which is 3.5 UW. I have a 1960 SAT & 31 ACT.

My extracurricular aren’t bad either, better than some who got in. But I personally think I’m going to get rejected because of my GPA.

I’m pretty sure both made it clear that they are both partially minorities.

@pineappleollie - My friend got in during the first wave with a 3.95 GPA and a 31 on the ACT. So I think you’ve still got a good chance if you have great EC’s and rec’s.

I REALLY wish they did it online like the UC’s…

yea me too… snail mail seems so outdated…

don’t forget that some people who haven’t had a status update since like february have been accepted! please don’t loose hope guys!!

i still have a 2/10 update, and it still says my app is being “reviewed”…hm… :(

@nagooya, I really don’t think half indian qualifies as an URM. I also have a friend who had a 26 on his ACT, 1 AP class, and about 3.3-3.5 UW GPA, and he hasn’t had a date change or anything. Not to say that people with those stats don’t have a chance, but that’s definitely more of a reach. He’s from the middle east, but I think that still qualifies as white. Basically, this just means we have no idea what this recent status date change means. It could be good or bad.

with a 3.35 (gulp) UW GPA am I in really bad shape?

I took 4 ap’s (chem, physics b, bio and calc ab) which is a pretty good amount at my school (elite private. second most usc freshman students out of any private school). Also took 4 honors courses. I got a
780 math
720 reading
690 writing
NMSF (not a finalist)
780 math 2
740 chem

Haven’t gotten an update since 2/09. Should I give up hope now? :(

In this world, never give up hope. Because if you have hope, you have everything. :)

no. well, no more hope for me at least lol.
good luck to everyone else!!!
