Not many ECs because of circumstances but... chance me for Brown?

  • Gender: Male
  • Race/Ethnicity: Hispanic (will this help me out, being an URM and all?)
  • Class of 2016, entering senior year this fall.
  • SAT: 2050 (will not submit)
  • SAT II's: Haven't taken... should I even, given my ACT is so high?
  • ACT: 35
  • UW GPA : 3.91

I have taken AP European History, AP Calculus BC, and AP English Literature and Comp. I’m awaiting scores on those, but I expect 4’s and 5’s. Next year I’m going to be taking AP Spanish, AP Physics, AP Art History, and AP English Language and Composition.

Extracurriculars is where I feel like I’m not up to par, but here they are:

  • National Honors Society Member
  • Service Scholar
  • Volunteer at my state's Natural History Museum. I help out in the summer camps and teach children (ages 7-10) about science. By the end of this summer I'll have ~100 hours, but I plan to continue volunteering into the school year.
  • Work as a babysitter for extra cash
  • I'm a Student Body Officer at my school
  • Next year I'm going to apply for Sterling Scholar in Foreign Language, and I feel like I have a decent shot because I have a good relationship with my Spanish teacher. I love languages and am currently self-studying Italian.
  • Have participated in NaNoWriMo 3 years in a row, winning twice, and have written 2 novels.

Here’s my unusual circumstance, which I plan to address in my essays: I’ve attended a ton of different schools (currently this is my third high school in 3 years), lived in 4 states, 2 countries, and had countless homes. I think this experience is an integral part of who I am as a person, but it’s also been a limiting factor as I’ve been unable to gain many leadership positions (as clubs at school require membership for a year or more before getting a leadership position).

Okay, so yeah. That’s it. My dream school is Brown and I’d love to study Sociology, History, or Economics, but I know Econ is super saturated right now. Please chance me!
