No. I havent published a book, or cured cancer, or altzheimers for that matter. I didnt get an award from potus. My main EC's are Model UN (i have won) and i am captain of my basketball team. I dont live in USA, so my EC's are kinda restricted. Here, its all about academics. So what do u guys think? Are my EC's fine? Enough to not hurt me in my application?
P.S. i am a US citizen

I think that your ECs many hurt you a bit for top tier schools, such as Harvard or Stanford because these schools look at what applicants have to offer in supplement to good grades. Perhaps if you have outstanding grades, maybe you can take a look at schools like Georgetown, too. You may get in to top tiers, but it’s hard to tell and your chances are less if your ECs are not par. Maybe you could look at schools in England such as Oxford or Cambridge, which accept students solely on their academics.

i wouldn’t worry too much. schools should read your app in context of what’s available to you. i’m in a similar position, and i’m aiming for top-tiers as well, although not ivies. and if a school would reject you based on ec’s, that isn’t the school for you

Out of thousands of American colleges, only a few dozen even care about ECs. Of course, these are the most selective, but if you are planning to apply to most public universities then your ECs won’t matter.

The colleges that do look at your activities are primarily concerned with evaluating who you are outside of the classroom. Even if you school does not offer a laudry list of activities, you still should be able to point to accomplishments outside of your class work. One of the best ECs often is simply having a part-time job.

Depends where you want to go. It will hurt you for Harvard. It won’t matter as much for NYU.

I am also in the same dilemma. Although I’m not even planning on applying to an Ivies, I only have about 4ish ECs due to having to watch my little brothers everyday after school while my parents are at work. Should I include that in my app/essay?

absolutely. caring for siblings is an ec in itself, and it helps explain why your ec’s are limited while showing maturity.
