Not quite sure how to withdraw my deposit?

Well.. I got accepted for Spring 2014 in both Syracuse and Umass Amherst (I know this is late.) I got the acceptance from Syracuse 2 weeks ago and from Umass last week. I was running out of time and accepted Syracuse's admission and paid the deposit. I sent them emails about wanting to rescind my acceptance and deposit but they have not replied. I tried called them but now they're closed for Thanksgiving and won't be open until Monday which is just about my deadline for Umass. I dont know what to do in this situation... Any advice?

In my experience they won’t refund your deposit, but you can tell them you no longer wish to attend you’re just out the deposit (it happened with me when I transferred)

Im not as worried about the money as I am about being able to put in my deposit for umass on time. After all, double despositing is unethical. Is an email normally enough to tell them that I won’t be going there any longer? Or is there a specific process one must go through?

It’s not unethical to submit your deposit and then change your mind - that’s different from submitting multiple deposits to multiple schools just because you’re undecided.

Send an email (which you’ve already done), and if you don’t get confirmation back from the school, follow up with a phone call. But you do not have to wait for confirmation before you submit you deposit to UMass.

IMO, it’s not really double-depositing if it’s just a temporary condition while you back out of one college in order to attend another. I wouldn’t worry about that if I were you.

Accept the offer from UMass if you want to go there, and pay the deposit. After you’ve done that, and you have confirmation that UMass has received your deposit, notify Syracuse that you won’t be attending after all. You can ask Syracuse about a refund of your deposit–after all, it costs you nothing to ask–but I expect you won’t get it back.

(x-post with dodgersmom)

Well… I’ll send in my deposit to Umass then… Thank you very much… Hope you all are right… If anybody has any other ideas, please do let me know :)
