I’m debating on whether I should take one of my AP tests in May knowing pretty well that I’ll most likely get a 1 or 2. The only way I’m surviving in AP Physics 1 is by constantly doing re-do’s for my teacher. Would it be terrible is I take it and not list it, or just not take it? I’m planning on majoring in English/Philosophy. My EC’s are pretty decent and I will be taking 4 AP tests regardless. This situation has got me beyond anxious
Also oops forgot to mention I posted this on the Stanford thread because the school is one of my top choices so I was really curious to see how much it would affect my chances for the school
If you don’t take it then you won’t have anything to list either. It has the same effect as taking but not listing.
@coolweather I guess I phrased my question pretty badly; would not having a score for the test (in general, whether by omission or not taking it) strongly affect my chances?
Edit: thanks for the reply btw!!
What would be the final grade on transcript? If you have grade A or B then I think it’s OK for not showing AP score because it’s not required. If you have grade below B then the admission office understands you don’t do well in that class and probably you don’t do well on the AP test too. It probably has little effect on your app if you do well on other areas.
@coolweather I had a B last semester and will probably have an A this semester. Thank you! @coolweather
My D never reported any of her AP scores last year ( for Stanford or any of her schools) and got in ( is a freshman there right now )
@iska123 Congrats, your daughter must be crazy intelligent! is there a specific reason she didn’t take them even though she took the corresponding classes (if you don’t mind me asking, of course)
she took them but wasn’t happy with all the results – and thought it would be weird to report some and withhold others, so she decided not to report any at all. Also got into Berkeley, Notre Dame, UCLA and few other selective schools without reporting any of her AP scores, so at least for her case, it didn’t seem to make a difference. ( she’s an unhooked Asian BTW).
Since my daughter ( a freshman) wouldn’t be receiving any AP credit or advanced standing from Stanford for her AP courses, she did not submit any of her AP scores to Stanford (which saved her/us some money as well). On her transcript, her AP courses were designed “AP __” and she did list her AP scores from her 10th and 11th grades (obviously none from 12th grade). With my other daughter, she took AP Computer Science in 12th grade but didn’t take the test since she wouldn’t be getting credit from Princeton. IMO- If you feel that you really are not going to score better than a 1 or 2, you may want to forego taking the AP Physics exam and concentrate on your other AP exams. Talk with your school guidance counselor or teacher. Best of luck!
