Hi! I hope I chose the right forum (probably not). What I need to know is, what is something that I could major in/classes I could take that would be okay for pre-med, but in the event that I decide I do not want to go to medical school, be sufficient for another lucrative career? For example, what course load will double as both medical school prerequisites and the degree for something else (i.e. chemical engineer or something like that)? The alternate occupation would ideally be $70K+/year... I'm thinking that I might have to work a few years at some job to save up enough money for medical school.

Pharmacy pays well, and is relevant, but is a five year program. It sounds to me as if chemical or biomedical engineering is your best choice. Biomed programs are often harder to get into than other engineering programs. Electrical engineers can get into biomedical work, so that is another option.

There are a handful of courses that are necessary for medical school, and any university can tell you what they are. They generally involve several biology and chemistry courses, a physics course and math courses. You can major in anything and get into medical school if you take those courses.

Once you know the specific courses you need for premed, you can check out other majors that might be of interest to you, and see if these courses satisfy major or distribution requirements.
