Not Taking a Math Junior Year

Hi everyone,

Sorry if I’m posting in the wrong forum. This is my first time posting on CollegeConfidential. I’m a junior in high school and I am planning to apply for a Biology major in college. For context about me, I go to a semi-competitive high school and I am near the top of my class (3.99 UW, 4.4 W), hoping to apply to T10 schools next fall. I am currently taking 6 AP/IB courses, including AP Physics C, and I have already taken AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics. There are no more math courses offered at my high school, and I couldn’t sign up to take any CCP courses since I didn’t have an ACT nor an SAT score.

Do you think that it’s a bad thing to not have a math course this year? Do you guys think it might hurt my applications? If so, what do you suggest doing? The main option I was considering is signing up to take Calculus 3 online next semester, but I fear that with Olympiads, AP Exams, and SATs I won’t have enough time to commit to the course.

I’d appreciate any advice that anybody can offer. I’m hoping that not math course this year won’t hurt my admissions process for T10s, and if anybody thinks it might, I’d love to hear some advice on what to do about it. Thanks in advance!

You can’t take courses that aren’t offered. Have your counselor explain in the recommendation letter.

As you’ve completed Calc BC and are taking a rigorous schedule, it will be a non-issue.

Make sure your counselor writes that you had taken all math courses offered and were not allowed to take a Dual Enrollment course due to lacking a test score, so were unable to take a Math junior year.
You should try to get score by next summer so you can enroll in dual enrollment Math class come September.
