Myself and a couple of my friends were recently wandering about the veracity of the claims made in the film.

Are there such cults in Ivy League Schools?

Second, If YOU were asked to join, given all the benefits; fully paid tuition, access to ANY job, or ANY graduate school you WANT!, cars, money, girls, etc..., would you?

Second, If YOU were asked to join, given all the benefits; fully paid tuition, access to ANY job, or ANY graduate school you WANT!, cars, money, girls, etc..., would you?

Remember, you are to respond to any of their whimsical demands; even if it means killing your family!!!

Thats a tough one. I don't think I could turn my back on my religion, country, and family. If I could have those three things still, I would do it in a heartbeat,

That movie was based on the actual Skull and Bones at Yale which John Kerry and GW Bush were members of. In fact, a lot of presidents and high powered people in law and finance were members.

First of all, that movie is a total dramatization. Even though there were (and are) secret societies like Skull and Bones, Scroll and Key, Harvard's Porcellian, The Fly, etc., they're not some underground Mafia organization that demands total commitment.

And yes, the movie is not really factual in the fact that at the secret societies' peak, they weren't likely to ask any poor, Jewish, minority, or Catholic student in. It was based primarily on the Old Boy Network, family heritage, money, and a little bit intelligence/athleticism. Bush comes from a very powerful, wealthy political family. So yes, he'd be an obvious choice for a secret society.

Does anybody think that they consstitute a potential risk to students studying at these colleges HYPSCP,etc

I mean, a bright student gets in to his dream college, onnly to get molested by some rich kids and be intimidated by falshy cars and other "heavenly" luxuries!!!???

rockyNo1, my cousin is at Yale and he said most skulls don't act any different than any other snobby rich kid. Perhaps a little more elitism, but no hazing. Also, there was a story out recently that said some members and alums feel the societies have become antiquated. Also, skulls has expanded to include minorities and jews ( influential ones of course)

at yale, you get tapped your junior year to join these secret societies. They have 4 at Yale and do meet in strange chamber like buildings. each senior member is allowed to tap one person. my friend who was tapped was a past model (absolutely gorgeous), extremely athletic, rich background, close to perfect SAT's, and such a nice person.

there are secret societies at many ivys. the most famous being skulls and bones. There is also the Porcelian Club at Harvard, and the Owl Society at Penn. The one im most familiar with is the Owl Society. I know that they live in a pretty decent house on Pine Street near campus. They are mostly of a rich family background. They arent as secret as yale societies. the Owls are mainly a bunch of rich party kids that throw sick as parties with tons of expensive alcohol, mountains of cocaine, and heaps of marijuana. They really dont exercise any power...however the members have some good perks including trips to exotic places, etc.
