Note: you don't have to finish the essay to do well on it

I totally left out the conclusion because I ran out of time, but I still managed to score above a 600. Had I finished the conclusion I probably would've scored at least a 700, but oh well. They seriously don't give enough time on that test.

The point is, the grade is more dependent on what you've written than on what you've included. Of course, what you've included is also fundamental. So if you don't have time to write a conclusion, at least write "In conclusion" so the graders know that you know that a formal essay typically includes a conclusion.

100 points for not having a conclusion is incredibly harsh, I doubt that was the only thing that brought your grade down. I got an 11 essay without finishing mine.

I believe that the essay is actually an important part of your grade and the length does matter!
I filled up the whole two pages with no time left to recheck my essay and ended up with an 11 and missed 3 on the writing section and got a 760, BUT if say you were to get an 8 or so on your essay , your score will go down to 700 or apprx. there.
Atleast that's what it was for the November SAT.

Actually I believe I had an 11 essay as well. One 5 and one 6 I think?

Wait... If you had an 11 essay, you cant have 100 points, or even 50 points deducted. Maybe 20 points, but not much more than that

do you guys think it's hard to get an odd score, because most graders will give you the same score. I really hope I get an 11 or 12.

i, in a sense, didn't finish, because i noticed i had 3 minutes left so i just wrote a quick conclusion and i only filled up about 1.5 pages. i planned on writing 3 examples yet only got to fully develop 2 (though i think they were clear enough despite the weak topic). hopefully i get at least a 9, because i think i did really well on the multiple choice.

No offense, but on CC, scoring above 600, or frankly anywhere below 750, is not considered doing "well"

Haha i was surprised how little space we were given to write (although 3rd time taking) since I had been taking the ACT for the past couple of months. But yeah, 2pages is hard NOT to fill out IMO, i even had to condense my conclusion.

concise ftl TT_TT

@vadox, thats harsh! meanie :(

^ lol, I wasn't trying to be mean.. I just came into this thread expecting somebody to say how they managed an 11 without finishing and like a 770 overall. That's what you get when hanging around on CC for too long

^yea
totally agree with you

"No offense, but on CC, scoring above 600, or frankly anywhere below 750, is not considered doing "well" "

Alright, how does this sound? "Reasonably well for non-CCC nerds."

I don't know, but all I was saying is that you should try to fill up the two pages if possible that way your essay will have more organization. Say intro, 3 paragraphs, conclusion.
3 paragraphs=examples. (Specific! Like if you have ever had an essay exam.. get really specific).

i stopped in the middle of a sentence of my third paragraph and got a 10 :)

I recently retook the SAT and scored a 800 on the writing. Not too shabby, eh, vadox?

Don't write a conclusion if you have nothing new to say. There's really little point in just summarizing your points using useless words. Pack a punch in your introduction and support it with two fully explored examples. I didn't even have room on the sheet for a conclusion after writing my three paragraphs, and I got an 11 on my essay and a 800 on Writing overall.
