Did anyone get an email from Pitt acknowledging the receipt of the application? My son submitted it at the last possible minute (well, 15 minutes before midnight EST). I hope that wasn't too late. :-(

I think my S was 15 minutes ahead of yours. No e-mail here, either. I think if you miss the deadline, you can’t submit, possibly even log on to the site. I think we’re fine.

My D’s application was due in the middle of November and she got it in a few days before her deadline. She never received any acknowledgement. We just need to sit tight and wait.

Steve and Podvigs,

That was a killer app, wasn’t it? Makes all the other remaining apps seem like a piece of cake. Thanks for the reassurance. We’ll sit tight right along with you guys.

Wow, I didn’t know it was that bad. She’s wanted to take total control of this process, so I haven’t seen anything. She’s just sick of writing essays. I think I remember reading last year that letters either inviting to interview or saying, “Thanks, but no thanks,” go out sometime in January.

I’m just wondering if everyone who received the invitiation to apply had CR+M scores of 1550 or higher? That is apparently the criteria this year due to the number of applicants.

I’ll ask, but I didn’t get the impression he thought it was particularly difficult in comparison to others he’s done. That said, “sick of essays” just about says it all at this stage of the game.

I can only provide one data point, but S had a superscored 36 on the ACT. Word is definitely out about Pitt’s merit aid and I don’t doubt the competition is getting stiffer.

S had 1590. Fingers and toes crossed that he will at least be interviewed. He has other at least full tuition merit options but loved his visit to Pitt. Besides he already bought a sweatshirt and hat while he was there.

D had a 35 ACT from one sitting, and didn’t take it again. I’d be so happy if she gets an interview, but I kind of thinking they are looking for people with real leader, “face of the university” type attributes. She’s not really like that.

I copied this from the course catalog:
From this, I get the idea they’re looking for “budding intellectuals” to develop. I’m hoping for an interview, because I think S promotes himself better in person than via essay, but I’m not expecting anything, because the odds are just too long.

Unless they’ve sped up the process, that’s not the case. I didn’t apply until the end of December, but was invited to apply for Chancellor’s mid-January. Didn’t get the “Thanks but no thanks” letter until maybe mid-February? But again, this was 4 years ago.

Horse’s mouth is always better than “I think I remember reading…” Thanks, AO!

Pittusburgh chancellor scholarship and gyranteed med program

Does anybody got pittusburgh chancellor scholarship who applied for gyranteed med program at University of Pittusburgh?

I have no idea what you’re asking based on the grammar, but to my knowledge, none of the people who were Chancellors in the last few years were also guaranteed med school students (based on the people I knew). However, I believe the guaranteed med school students all had some sort of scholarship offer anyway (since they were obviously very good students). Keep in mind the two committees (Chancellors and Guaranteed Med) are run by different people looking for different ideal candidates.
