My daughter applied on 9/22 and the application was sent successfully and we were billed. She has not gotten confirmation from Emory with login info etc even though all of her other schools emailed her after a day or two. She called Emory and was told it takes " a few weeks" to hear back because they have not downloaded the common apps yet. She called a second time just to make sure and was told that she should have heard by now and was given some " tech support" number to call who was supposed to help her trouble shoot and get her the login info so she can track her application status. She called " tech support" and was told they have nothing to do with the common app. Today I called and was told that they have not downloaded the common apps and will be doing it next week, and she should get an email shortly thereafter. She will wait until next week and hope that she hears back.

Has anybody else experienced this? Has anybody applied to Emory and received an email confirmation with password etc info? My daughter applied to 12 schools and has heard from every single one except for Emory and Oxford.

@twogirls – Can’t speak to this topic regarding this year, but last year when S14 was applying there were multiple schools that took weeks to download the common app. My understanding is that some schools download their common apps in batches, at certain intervals. Furthermore, some of his schools last year didn’t download any common apps until well into October. ?Maybe they had no need to download them before they were going to do anything with them.

That all said, last year there were all sorts of technical glitches with the ‘new’ common app, and this was also given as a reason why some schools wouldn’t (or couldn’t) download them, so I don’t know if last year’s experience is relevant. My son, who is at Emory, didn’t submit his common app to them until Thanksgiving weekend. My memory is that they didn’t download it immediately, but did so within a week or so.

As anxiety-provoking as this may be, my guess is that you’re fine and should wait it out a bit. Best of luck.

Thank you so much. After about 4 phone calls I finally believe that they really have not downloaded them yet. Hopefully she will get notification next week. Thanks again and good luck to your son!

My daughter submitted her app The last week of September and hasn’t received a confirmation from Emory or anything about an OPUS login so you’re not alone. I’m sure they’ll send out confirms and info soon. It is causing some anxiety as she’s applying ED1 and wants all her ducks in a row early.

Thank you CenturionUSA for that information. If we don’t receive an email by Wednesday or Thursday I will have D call again. It’s creating some anxiety here as well but I suspect it will work out fine. Good luck to your daughter!

Instead of calling the admissions office have you tried emailing your regional admissions rep? Sometimes they’re more responsive about stuff like this, and it establishes a bit of a personal connection.
And @CenturionUSA – best of luck to your daughter. My S14 is a freshman at Emory, and is very very happy there.

AsleepAtTheWheel that is an excellent idea! Thank you!! My D loves Emory- it’s one of her top choice schools. We visited last February and it really felt like home to her. I will suggest that she email her admissions counselor.

D received an email from Emory this morning. The email said not to set up her account for 48 hours because they need time to assign her the login info. She sent in her application on 9/22. Good luck to everybody!

My daughter received the email this morning as well. Thanks for the well wishes. Our whole family is very excited to get to December. Good luck to your daughter. :)

Thank you - you too!

Welcome to Emory! For some reason the administration screws up a lot of things like this.

Well the Opus " to do" list says they are waiting for the school report and teacher recs- it should be mentioned that the common app says these items have already been downloaded by Emory. It also says they are waiting for the transcript ( sent last week and every other school received it). The tests are not listed on the " to do" list which I guess indicates they have been received. Emory seems to be a little disorganized compared to other schools but my D loves the school so I will let it slide LOL.

@twogirls – I think it’s important to recognize how ridiculously early you are right now in the application/admission cycle. It’s October. You guys have been very diligent and have your completed (or nearly completed) applications in, but many applicants do not. There’s no push for Emory to get this stuff downloaded now – If you’re in the RD pool they’re not even going to look at it for months. Different schools have different approaches in terms of how they process all this stuff at this point in the cycle.
I understand how frustrating it is. We went through this last year, and it made me crazy. Your child pays all this attention to detail to get this stuff done, and then you don’t get the gratification of seeing the checkboxes checked off when you log onto the admissions portal. For me with my OCD (or is it ADD?) it was impossible to resist the urge to check multiple times a day. But it’s a long way between now and March, so unless your daughter’s applying ED you’ll live longer if you let this go for a while before you get concerned.

This brings up another issue, which is whether it’s appropriate to ‘judge’ a school based on how organized (or not organized) the admissions office is. Last year I befriended another parent on CC when we discovered that both our kids had applied to Tulane and Miami. They were ready to cross off Tulane because they were so disorganized, but were impressed with Miami. We were ready to bag Miami, because their admissions office was making us crazy, but were impressed with Tulane. . . FWIW, my son’s decision to attend Emory was made on Emory’s final Admitted Students Day, after we’d made a round of visits to four schools to which he’d been admitted. Emory’s admissions office was head and shoulders above all the others in terms of how they presented themselves when they had the chance to close the sale. Finally, my son really likes his classmates, which says something positive about their judgment.

We visited Emory last February and from the second we stepped foot on campus we knew it was the right school for our daughter. Yes I agree with you that we are ridiculously early in this process and I don’t expect Emory to have everything updated in her file right away. Much of this is my issue and has nothing to do with the school.
