@dirtysprite2 Thought I answered this! Sorry about that. I wouldn’t get worried if I were you. With stats like yours and I’m assuming good essays and teacher rec, I would be surprised if you didn’t get in. Are you OOS or in-state?
If you’re OOS and don’t hear back for the interview weekend by Friday(I’m just guessing here since the weekend is coming up soon), then no you are not eligible for the William Aiken Fellows. It’s still possible that they could still be sending out interview weekend invites and have alternates in case someone decides not to go, but my letter tells me that less than 10% of the applicants get invited. I checked Twitter and Instagram and it seems that no one has posted their letter(doesn’t mean several didn’t get it though). Usually many students post things like that, but so far no one has.
Their website also says that Honors decisions will continue to release through spring. I think that their will be more within the next couple of weeks since the deadline rvsp-ing for the interview is this week I believe.
@dirtysprite2 I think I would shoot them an email. With your stats, I’m surprised that you didn’t get a letter. Is 4.0 a weighted GPA? If so, that may be why you haven’t received a letter to interview. The letters came certified and had to be signed for . Maybe the postman wasn’t able to get a signature. I hope you find out something soon.
@Chopinspiano I am OOS, and I had called and they told me I was not selected for the interview weekend. A bit bummed and sort of surprised, but oh well. Thanks for the help!
@carolinamom2boys The 4.0 is unweighted, but perhaps they didn’t like my essays or something. Who knows. Thanks for helping!
@dirtysprite2 I’m shocked as well. Maybe you’ll get another kind of merit from Cofc because there is no way you won’t get into honors unless they had a tremendous increase in applicants this year. Where else did you apply?
@dirtysprite2 We are also still waiting to hear though my D’s stats aren’t as high as yours. I am also very surprised that you didn’t get invited to the interview weekend.
Its rather annoying that they haven’t even indicated an acceptance to Honors College (or not) yet. All other schools that my D applied to let you know if you were in the Honors College in the acceptance letter. I don’t like the way that CofC is leaving people hanging. I am wondering if the only people who have heard so far are those that received the invitation to the interview weekend. Maybe if you didn’t make that cut, you haven’t heard?
At this point my D has narrowed her decision to two schools that she keeps going back and forth on. CofC is in third simply because she hasn’t heard about honors college yet. They really should get back to people who sent their applications in time for EA.
@carolinamom2boys I am! They said I was still in the running for acceptance to the honors college. If i don’t make that, which i would be even more shocked about than this, than i would definitely be crossing CofC off my list.
@Chopinspiano Yeah, hopefully there’s aid for those not selected for the weekend. I don’t think i can justify paying sticker price for a degree from CofC, even though i woud like to go there. I also applied to Dartmouth, Ohio State, Duke, University of South Carolina, and Rice.
@me29034 When i called, i believe the office said they were sending out honors college acceptances just to those who had made the cut for the interview weekend, so there’s still hope for honors college acceptance! and i agree, almost all other schools have notified about honors college in the original acceptance. It would make much more sense to notify everyone who applied by the deadline about their status at honors college, AND THEN notify those who were selected for the weekend separately
@me29034 I don’t think CofC is different in notification of Honors acceptance in terms of other state schools in SC.Both Clemson and USC Columbia notify students after their acceptance to the regular university . Unlike Alabama and several other schools that admit right into Honors program based on stats, schools in SC have competitive admissions to Honors with far more applicants than spots. I can empathize that waiting is difficult . My son is still waiting to hear back from Clemson Calhoun Honors and will not hear back until Feb.
I spoke to someone at the honors college and they said they hope to have the notifications out for those who applied early action by the end of next week.
Yes, only early applicants will hear by end of next week @bsommer27. The early notification deadline was Nov 1. Not sure when they will notify regular decision applicants.
Daughter received an invitation to the Honors College yesterday. The invitation to the Honors College makes Charleston an intriguing option for her, and I expect we will visit, as she has not yet seen the school.
D got a letter today saying she was wait listed for honors college. I didn’t even know they did that. It said only 215 students are admitted which is less than I had thought. Anyway, this pretty much knocks CofC off my D’s list.
D letter came today notifying her she is on the wait list. We will hope for the best and see what the end of March brings as being a part of a Honors program is important to her.
